i never took the porno watching scene as mr. mcallister thinking he couldn't trust himself around tracy flick. he found her irritating and entitled and didn't want her running unopposed. seeing the porno football player just gave him the idea to push paul to run. also, matthew broderick was on a major adult role hot streak by the time he did election (1999). he had just done the cable guy (1996), addicted to love (1997), and godzilla (1998). but i will grant that at the time, seeing him in a very ed rooney-type role was still pretty shocking to my ferris bueller-loving high school self
