2020-09-16 23:07:11 +0000 UTCListening to the BWW episode and I have a question regarding Mitch's choice to order a burger at a chicken restaurant - does a restaurant get a pass for having an item menu that is not in their "core" competencies or should all offered items be treated as equals? Example - my dad complained about the poor quality of a steak at Red Lobster. shouldn't we expect that as lesser quality or does it have the same standards as say the shrimp?

If I'm enjoying steak and mashed potatoes, you know my last bite will be steak dipped in those mashed potatoes. It's a concious choice, and it takes discipline to keep some of those creamy tatters around till the end. I had just placed my order and driven as close to the car in front of me as was possible, but the car behind me was still not quite in range of the speaker system to place their order. This isn’t too out of the ordinary, EXCEPT that the car in front of me had about 10 feet of excess space between them and the car in front of THEM, therefore delaying the order of the car behind me, and wasting precious time during which the workers could be fulfilling the order of the vehicle behind me. I flashed my lights and waved a bit, but no response for a solid minute or so. Some of the worst cognitive dissonance I have ever experienced, not able to full on honk at the vehicle to my fore, and not able to covertly assist the patron to my aft. That said, what are your major order-placing pet peeves committed by oblivious customers in eating establishments?

As a listener who worked at an einstein brothers bagels throughout college, it would be fun to make off-menu items with supplies provided. One example was the bagel shop for a short period of time offered an item where we had to hollow out a hoagie and insert lettuce and dressing, in some sort of portable, on-the-go bread bowl. Terrible idea. We ended up using this method to make Italian style subs while on break. Yes, all at a bagel shop. We would also share these non-menu items with friends Question for the group, have you ever had off-menu concoctions at a chain you enjoy made by someone you know behind the velvet countertop? Love the show. And if I may. I truly respect all the work Emma does. They had the regular menu in addition to a bakery and “bistro” meal options like deli sandwiches and meatloaf which you ordered by phone from a small wooden booth section. They only operated the 3 in 1s for a year or two and reverted them back to normal locations. Have you ever heard of this or anything like this? I’ve never found any other articles of McDonald’s doing this anywhere else.

I'm wondering if a) are you home-burg freaks? and b) if so, are you patty-purists who take meat and just meat? I've been working with 600g ground beef, 300g ground pork, 2 green onions diced, 1 tbsp Vietnamese fish sauce, 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce (for a mild hit of umami, babyyy!), 1 tsp ground pepper, 1 egg, 1/4 c breadcrumbs. That makes 8 or 9 quarter pounder patties which i divide and freeze. I'm a Vancouver boy here so sorry about the metric grams! Add to that a kraft single, lettuce, tomato, onion on a toasted sesame seed bun and the SeriousEats 'fake shake' burger sauce which, FYI, is dope as hell. Love the show! ~Matt

Keep in mind, this would be you eating 10+ varieties of Cupcakes, Potato Salad, Salami, Cookies, etc. until you have the best supplier for that particular product. I had a job at a major grocery store chain, and one of the things we did was test taste all of these foods. It was great until it wasnt.
