Added 2024-04-29 23:30:05 +0000 UTCI found a faster way to create the hex pattern, making the crease technique unnecessary!
1. Activate the Tissue add-on in Preferences
2. Select the triangulated version
3. Click Convert To Dual Mesh in the Tissue settings (N)
Also, to uniformly shape each hex into a perfect circle, apply LoopTools > Circle after the Inset, while the faces are still selected, but before deleting them.

I actually explored using it when I was developing this tutorial but didn't try the Convert to Dual Mesh function at that time!
