While I technically did a few hours of work fixing a few panels and some prep work for Kat and Bodysuit 23, I went into the weekend with the idea of relaxing. On Saturday I wound up spending the entire day playing Ys VI, something I've been meaning to play for years now to complete the trilogy of VI/Felghana/Origins. While it wasn't as tight as the later entries due to being first in that particular format, it was still a lot of fun! And it being a 10-12ish hour game your first time meant I was able to reach a satisfying conclusion all in one go! I really recommend checking it out, but preferably after you've played Ys' earlier (and even later) releases. While you CAN technically jump straight into VI, it's building upon the ground work laid down in Origin, Books I and II, Memories of Celceta, Oath in Felghana, and Ys V (which was never released ouside of Japan). It does reiterate some of those past adventures, but for the most part expects you to already have experience with them. This of course means playing games out of release order like Memories of Celceta, the 2012 reworking of the duel Ys IV games before touching a game released nine years earlier. Luckily, Ys VI, Oath, and Origins regularly go on sale for $5 on Steam. Might be best to grab Origins, which chronologically is the first in the series, taking place 700 years prior to Book I and II. And if you enjoy that, then check out more in the franchise. The only Ys games left for me to play and finish are Books I and II, Ys VII, and Ys V, though I can live without ever touching V.
