Writing By Phone Gets Old
Added 2024-10-01 18:33:39 +0000 UTCIf you haven't noticed, the past week of chapters or so have differed a little compared to past chapters. That's because I've been forced to write by phone when I left behind my laptop charger by accident in Bulgaria while on a side quest to Germany to see Oktoberfest.
It took a while for my charger to get to me (and my god, DHL is a freaking pain in the ass and so are German trains for some reason). So for the past week I had to write chapters by phone, then quickly edit them on the lap top, and then post them, then turn off my laptop to save power.
Phone writing has it's uses. You can really narrow your focus and get deeper into a scene.
But it's harder to multitask in a scene, such as keeping track of dialogue, going back and forth between pages and documents to check on stuff that I've already written, and to update my Book Bible that holds all the stats and some key info.
So, it was on this day, when my laptop was dead, and I was at my writs end with phone writing, that I've finally got my charger back. The wave of emotion that hit me was incredible.
Today's chapter is the last phone-written chapter for a while. I still like using my phone for re-reads and sometimes for copy/line edits for a different perspective, but I appreciate doing stuff by laptop so much more since you avoid the tunnel vision effect and getting stuck on unnecessary details.
Anyway, I'm still in Germany, and I won't be back in the states until October 8. I'm feeling pretty good, so I think the pacing of the story will pick up from here. I got some exciting stuff I want to get to.
