The photoshoot theme is...
Added 2025-02-27 10:08:37 +0000 UTCI’ve talked about this before, and I’m not tired of talking about it again.
An amateur photo shoot is instantly elevated when a photographer (or a model) brings an idea, a mood, a keyword, or a theme to the table. It’s SO MUCH BETTER than just saying, "Let’s meet and see what we can do. You’re pretty, I have a camera, the photos will be great."
They probably will be. But they won’t be unique or memorable.
So today, I’m making a little “to-do list” for myself. If you’re a photographer, feel free to take any topic and interpret it your own way. And if you feel like sharing the results, I’d be very happy to see them!
I’m also curious how many of these moods I’ll be able to bring to life in my shoots this year.
The party went well – coming home, happy vibes, outdoors, glitter, barefoot.
He broke up with me, and I didn’t see it coming – dark, smudged makeup, screams, emotions.
A Queen is back – a woman reconnecting with her inner power.
Trying tennis for the first time – clumsy, cute, sexy shoot on a tennis court.
Driving away from problems – solo or duo, road trip, fun.
My older husband neglects me – classy, elegant shoot with a twist of naughtiness.
"She was carrying some of those repulsive yellow flowers. God knows what they’re called, but they are somehow always the first to come out in spring. They stood out very sharply against her black dress. She was carrying yellow flowers! It’s an ugly color." (Quote from Master and Margarita) – bringing literature, songs, movies, and poetry to life through photography. So inspiring!
Introvert weekend – staying home, enjoying simple pleasures.
Talking to a friend – can be interpreted in so many ways, omg.
I killed my man – not a crime scene, just raw, emotional portraits.
A mermaid with no mercy – could be a costume shoot or just a mood.
Reading an old diary – memories, melancholy, ghosts from the past.
After a first date – so many emotions to explore in this setup.
Everything shower – could be glam, lifestyle, or an unexpected twist (dinner in the shower, a work meeting, a workout, etc.).
House chores – cute and sexy or sad and depressing. So many possibilities.
Circus fairy – acrobatic, artistically styled shoot.
The circus has left, and the clown is left behind – a performer lost without a stage.
Female rage – raw, expressive, powerful.
Red Sails – inspired by the book about a girl waiting for her love.
Secret agent when nobody can see her – strength and vulnerability.
A room full of mirrors – confronting different versions of oneself.
Lover’s ghost – solo or duo; could be spooky, melancholic, nostalgic, etc.
90s It-Girl – bringing back all the trends from my childhood that I was too young to experience.
Breakfast in bed – solo or duo; could be cute and fun, melancholic, fashion-forward, or fine-art nude.
Through the storm – photoshoot in the rain, wet clothes, wet hair, splashes of water. Would be amazing with a strong partner for lifts and dance-like poses.
Femme fatale – I could go on forever trying different variations of this theme.
Drowning in responsibilities – an underwater shoot with props. A woman in a work environment, a housewife, or anyone overwhelmed by life.
Underwater shoots in general – so many creative possibilities: a strong woman carrying something giant, levitation concepts, flowy fantasy dresses.
Goddess reincarnated – inspired by mythology, using a quote, a story, or a painting and interpreting it uniquely.
Not perfect – addressing insecurities, embracing imperfections, or confronting one’s dark side.
Dance like nobody’s watching.
Birthday girl – confronting aging, forced happiness, or simply reflecting on life.
Flower market – a fashion shoot with a pretty self-explanatory setup.
Picnic in the city – could be a classic park picnic or something unexpected (museum, train station, busy street, etc.).
Color-themed shoots – finding color splashes in urban environments or styling a model in monochrome or meaningful color combinations (inspired by food, country flags, flowers, holiday palettes, etc.).
Our love melted away – a snow shoot with an ice heart or a flower that melts over time.
The visitor – dark and spooky, with fog and mysterious figures. Horror vibes.
A deal with the devil – a character’s inner transformation, not necessarily shown literally.
A portal to the unknown – using mirrors, water reflections, lights, etc.
Body paint-themed shoots – personally, I’d love to write words on a body and express meaning through posing. But it could also involve abstract shapes, colors, and textures that interact with movement.
As you can see, these ideas vary widely. Some excite me more than others, and some are pretty basic—but I’d still do them if they’re missing from my portfolio. Usually, when I start brainstorming, the first few ideas are just a warm-up, not really worth my attention. But you never know! :)
I highly recommend collecting your own ideas in a list and refining your favorites by creating mood boards, gathering inspiration, making storyboards, curating music vibes, and thinking about potential collaborators. If this doesn’t elevate your craft, I’ll give you your money back! :D
