Update 04/19 - Audiolog Experiment, Fallout Actualplay and Shorts

This is Earndil writing (Lead Writer and Voice of Fatigue, Shitbeard and Kevin (just so you don't read this entire post in Kevin's voice alone))

It's a Friday (as of writing, god only knows when Alfa will post this)

THAT MEANS IT'S UPDATE TIME (wow).

What updates are going on this week you may ask!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

Some...

Let me explain:

Now that we have firmly recovered from the release of Chapter 4, we have once again shifted back into our quite standard state of "we're working on stuff, so releases shall be somewhat dry" state.

That's not to say we're not going to be releasing things before the release of Chapter 5, however!

In fact, we're working quite hard on some Shorts right now!
And things are proceeding at a very rapid pace, believe it or not.
Panel art for the Shorts has been diligently worked on, and is making rapid progress alongside the work we're doing for Episode 5, as well as the four Prologues and first episode of Norfolk Wizard Game!

Episode 5's audio has been all but completely collected by now, so we're hard on the other aspects... the lengthy and time consuming aspects such as procuing panel art and preparing for the long and arduous task of animating (gods peed Karl Alfa and Garrot).
Expect this kind of thing to be status quo for the next, euhg I dunno, like good while?
We're working on reducing the production time in smart ways, but frankly full episodes, especially ones like this take a long time to produce on our budget.

Speaking of Budget, we're eyeing a potential additional partnership with Makeship for the future... but we have no firm plans for that yet.
Stay tuned, because the income we received from the last drop was unbelievably helpful in getting us back at a running pace again, and has made an ungodly contribution to this year's budget. So an IMMENSE thank you to all who went and got that Kevin.

Shorts!

For Shorts, which we promised we'd be releasing more of post EP4, we have 4 in the pipe right now, two of which are animated in a similar vein to a full episode, and two which are mini-lore videos akin to the Video Essay we released on WoD proper a while back.
We have learned many things working on them however! And what we have learned is!

We're not gonna do fully animated shorts in the same quality as episodes going forward. They're entirely too time consuming.

BUT WE DID LEARN THAT VIDEO ESSAY STYLE SHORTS WITH DETAILS ON THE SETTING ARE VERY EASY AND QUICK TO DO. WE WILL LIKELY BE WORKING MORE ON THEM ONCE WE CONCLUDE A CERTAIN "EXPERIMENT" WHICH I'LL ELABORATE ON... NOW!

Audiologs?!

As established previously, Audiologs have been greatly received in the past, but they have also costed us a lot of time and delayed our mainline episodic content.
But we still WANT Audiologs in our pipeline because they are such good creative outlets, space to flesh out our characters and teach about the setting we inhabit.
So, how can we have our cake and recklessly devour it too?

We are currently setting up a little experiment with various people working on our roster but not involved in the editing and animation of mainline episodes.
We will try to set up two separate teams of workers/animators.
One team will be solely focused on producing Audiolog content, and the other shall be focused on producing mainline content, such as episodes and the like!

This is so that we can potentially work on and release simpler and less intensely edited Audiologs alike the Kitten and Big-D Primer, the Probing of Kevin, and the Avoiding Arrest Audiologs. This while we still make prodigious progress on episode work (because we have a horrendous tendency to over-produce Audiologs, and by we I mean Alfa, Karl, and Garrot, I am passing the buck).

Hopefully this will work out well, and shall result in some ACTUAL STUFF being released between now and Chapter 5.

Fallout...? Huh? What?

Well, as you may have heard, I (Earndil) am spearheading a potential Fallout:tm: liveplay, in a similar way to how Speaker is running NWG!

We're in the prologue state right now, but we're running and operating concurrent to all of our other stuff, and we have a skilled artist producing material for it as well, so that it does not deduct vital working time from mainline material to do.
I THINK IT'S VERY GOOD SO FAR, AND WE'VE ONLY GOT ONE PROLOGUE DONE, ART'S GOOD, LOOKING FORWARD TO THE REST OF THE GAMERS IN THE SHOW.
I can talk more about it later when we have more progress.

On the topic of Norfolk Wizard Game, we're now in the process of and almost finished with animating simple visuals to make it moreeeaaaahhhh ENTERTAINING TO WATCH?
Because it's a pen and paper game, it helps to have something with visual flair to look at as you hear us yammer on for hours on end.

THIS IS A RINGING ENDORSEMENT, IF YOU LIKE OUR WORK (especially our Audiolog stuff), YOU'LL LIKE THIS. A LOT. We put magic in it.

.....

For now though, that's what I've got!

Until next time, have a poppeng rest of your day!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

-Earndil

Until next time, have a good one!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have an idea to suggest. How does a new sort of WH40K fan-fic story with the title "What if the Imperium and the Emperor had a Legends host show" sound? it of course would have bloopers and be more a high light of all the accomplishments from everyone in the Imperium from Astarte's to Astra Militarum to the inquisition and the Primarch's. The idea is to have a two separate versions a comedy version from your branch of preference and a more serious version, this idea would be for the Emperor to be using a holo projector for his presence to learn everything that has happened since his state of dormancy and to spread the word of the heroic efforts of all the soldiers of the Imperium

rowan williams

One more question. If there is no-one on YouTube that has it, would I be able to make such a video with your permission and send it to you to post?

rowan williams

If I may ask. Does anyone know/have a YouTube video with the following name: TTS40k all dark angels appearance from all episodes in order. I am looking as to how watch separate scenes from that hilarious show please reply when you have time. Also what is this War Hams show?

rowan williams

I can see keeping yourself busy isn't an issue. But I Was told from a, "and I know it may be arguable & subjective" Discord user called "Bearded Tree" that GW doesn't care about the fan-fic stories animated or not as long as they don't interfere with copyright ownership claims. I'm not going to argue on & on about it anymore, I just thought I should speak my mind about this

rowan williams

Seconded

Kyle E Johnson

NWG is perfect as is. While visuals might be fun, for me at least, they aren't necessarily. I just want MORE.

Optimistic Author

Honestly the NWG content is what I'm most exited about. I have been checking back every few days hoping for news on more episodes of NWG!

Robert Bowman

I am HOOKED for the Wizard Game. I want to see the characters grow! It's gotten me hunting for some of the older books. Like an blushing maiden, I demand: TAKE RESPONSIBILITY, BAKA

Razor Karu

WIZARD GAAAAAAAAAAAAME.

Crispe

I crave Wizard game like a vampire blood. I NEED it

Fluffer

Really looking forward to those gently visualified NWG prologues!

Joseph Sikorski

I'm hoping for more narrative wargame experiements but i'm very excited for everything coming out of the team, you people do brilliant work

Kamran Houle

Yaaaaay more shorts more shorts more shorts!

Graverobber Jake

Holy shit Fallout!!!

Erik Olsson (TerrorBlades)

You could do an entire series! Boy with gun Door with gun And then make a Kevin round 2, but this time with Velcro hand so he can have a cute little gun accessory, or a blood bag, or one of those old solar powered calculators. Kinda like what Carbot did with their marine and overlord plushies. And then Horse with gun. I don't know how that would work, but whatever you guys come up with, it'll make me let out a hearty chuckle and then buy it as a gift for my DM friend

Kyle E Johnson

Please don't do fallout. You'll make something else excellent and ruin the TV series for me. My childhood can't handle getting Flowers-For-Algernon'd like that I hope the audio log experiment goes well! You all produce excellent things and I'm always happy to hear you finding ways to do it while suffering less & seeing the fruits of your labor be rewarded more often It still blows my mind that you consider "avoiding arrest" and "probing of Kevin" 'simpler' audiologs, as though they aren't absolutely top - shelf audio drama. I get that you're referring to "simpler to make" but still. Hearing D's internal monologue in "avoiding arrest" was like one of the most tense anime duels ever, and I mean that as an absolutely glowing compliment

Kyle E Johnson

If you don't mind an unsolicited suggestion from a stranger who is not an artist: You overproduce the visuals. Your perfectionism and artistic taste leads you to make excellent quality stuff, and so the audio was already excellent and stands on it's own. Such is the struggle of an artist who has to call their work "done" at some point when it could be better. If the visual - enhanced versions of the existing ones bring in substantially more views, due in part to it being on YouTube, it might be worth your time to release them simultaneously in video and podcast format, and maximize that engagement. I'm no YouTuber, I'm making a semi-informed guess. But if the difference in engagement is not so great, it might be better for your work scheduling & release scheduling to do them separately, so you don't wind up sitting on finished also files waiting for animation when you've got another episode to be working on. I don't know how long the audio editing takes (it's incredibly good so I imagine it takes a while), but the way you describe things in these updates, it seems like visuals are always the bottleneck, so it may be better to find ways to release content without that bottleneck.

Kyle E Johnson

also the Norfolk Mage stuff is excellent, top tier tabletop RP

Jack Ponder

I hunger for Fallout! Bring this tabletop record online so I might listen to the words spoken!

Jack Ponder

Oh my god 'Rads to Riches' is such an amazing name for a Fallout game, Holy shit!

Chibi Penguin

Honestly not sure yet! We’ll tell you when a decision has been made proper. EP2 is currently on the backburner a little bit, though, I will say. But we’re certainly gonna release it before EP5.

Alfabusa

Which reminds me. Alfa Busa if I may suggest, why not try to make a compromise with Games Workshop on how you can post you're TTS40K? It's just a thought no-one has to take me seriously

rowan williams

TOTALLY forgot to make a note of this but we have recorded another game and it was just so incredibly dramatic that we must do it justice

Alfabusa

That is probably the greatest encouraging compliment to Alfa Busa I've seen

rowan williams

Sounds like lots on the plate, may your studio never run dry of ideas!

Trevor Bond

I AM THE SON OF MAN

SirWhorshoeMcGee

Very excited for all of this!

Rick Jenkins

There are so many lines from that episode that are just living rent-free in my head now XD

Rick Jenkins

As a recommendation for the next plush if you guys do it again. Boy with a gun

Hector

I look forward to be getting my wee angry wizard accountant!

Decius

I read this in Fatigue and Kevin's voice. And it was hilarious to me. But i am kinda excited for both Norfolk wizard game and the Fallout:tm you got going on

Kronos419

Amen

MorningCock

I'd actually pay for more Turnip28 battle reports. The one we got was so, so good

SirWhorshoeMcGee

I'll be honest, I couldn't read it in Kevin's voice. Instead the inner voice I heard it in was the dude who keeps holding that Miami radio station hostage with unpaid ads.

Bunny Waffles

Thanks for update Earndil. Goods peed to u too buckethat.

MorningCock

More goofy TTRPG shenanigans with the Ogres? But I haven't even caught up with the Norfolk Wizard game and am behind with the Narrative Declaration Rotgrinds and Goons AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA! ....looking forward to it, though.

Risax the Imp

I am so unbelievably happy that the Kevin plush was such a success! You all are without a doubt some of my favorite creators and I am stoked for all of your projects. And really excited for new audio content, as that is my main way of consuming the story.

Lego Cathedral

Does this mean Audiolog at O'Malley's? We get to actually see (hear) Door doing parent things?

Karizen Magi

Very excited for future episodes of Norfolk Wizard game. Are you going to continue to release them in podcast format while catching up with them with a visualizer or are you going to wait to release more episodes til you can release them with visuals simultaneously?

Caleb Jackson

GODS PEED HAS ME LAUGHING SO HARD GODS PEED FELLAS GODS PEED 🙏🙏🙏🙏

Wi-Gi

I did in fact read this entirely in Kevin’s voice. And it was glorious.

Cartoonjunkies

Gods peed. Hehehe.
