EP26 Part 2 Update - TTS under threat

AY

Another 10 days. Ever since I started doing this 10 day update interval, I've noticed that 10 days go by very fast. Not a fan of this.
When another 10 days have passed, TTS may or may not have effectively been killed off by some crusty old men who, in their complete out-of-touchness, are trying to force through a legislation that will, in theory, effectively force social medias to filter all their content for copyrighted material, removing it before it has even gotten the chance to be uploaded.

I'll be writing a bit more about this down below, and what this means for me, this Patreon, EP26, and the future of the series.
But first, updates on EP26.

EP26 Update:
To be quite honest, I am not too happy with my progress. I've mostly just rerendered scenes and worked on audio, only making about 2 minutes of progress on the visuals themselves.
However, I do have some funnews to go along with that.

For now, I'm going to try and continue working on EP26 as well as I can. I must admit that the internet in general has gotten me quite tired as of late, and that might partly be why I haven't done as well as I should have. That and I started playing Vanilla WoW along with some other people in the TTS project. I feel like I've played it a bit more than neccesary...

Now, for some even more serious stuff.

Article 13 and the potential murder of TTS:
So, as I mentioned earlier, some sickly old farts, no doubt the distant forefathers of the High Lords of Terra in the 41st Millennium, have thrown in a proposal to the EU, one that will impose mandatory copyright upload filters on all web hosting services, including YouTube.
I'm not going to start preaching about why they might be doing this. You could probably project whatver political belief you may have onto this article and its backers and find it horrid and against what you stand for no matter where you are on the political spectrum. That's why I like calling it a non-partisan issue. Because it's awful for pretty much everyone, except an extreme minority.
If you want to read more about it however, I definitely recommend this deconstruction of it:
https://edri.org/files/copyright/copyright_proposal_article13.pdf

Now, I am personally not too worried to be quite honest with you.
Looking at the deconstruction of the article, the masses of people firmly against this legislation and the mere fact that what these decrepit wrinklespawns are demanding, mandatory scanning of 300 hours worth of YouTube videos every minute, is quite simply impossible with today's technology. YouTube can't even get a bot to demonetize nazi propaganda properly, how in the fuck would they ever be able to do anything like this?
It is, quite simply, unenforcable.

But what if it happened anyway?
What if, against all odds, this absolutely alien legislation was not only voted in, but properly enforced? What would happen?

Well, it would definitely mean no more TTS.
Probably no more YouTube in general 'cause, let's be honest, pretty much everything on YouTube has some kind of copyrighted thing in it.

However, if this was to happen, if TTS was to be killed, I would, first off, desperately try to deliver EP26 and the rest of the episodes to you, the people who have helped me create it, be it through DVD in the mail or whatever else could work.
Second off, I would not give up on content creation. If I am no longer allowed to use Warhammer 40,000 as the basis for my ridiculous internet fanfic--then I will make my own fucking grimdark, oppressive sci-fi fantasy universe with space marines, greenskins, space elves, skeleton robots, so on so forth, something I will own all rights to, for the mere purpose of continuing to create.
I need to create, it is my calling, and I don't want to stop just because some shitty sentient potato sacks want to kill memes or whatever.
In response to this, --
I will, unironically, make Battlemace 42 Million a reality.

Battlemace 42 Million would be a super original universe, property of James Workshop and Alfabus Incorperated, and would be what you probably expect. Here's a garbage elevator pitch I wrote up in 10 minutes:

In the ghastly gloom of the 42nd Mega-annum,
there
sure is a lot of war.
In a few million years, you shall find one Kitten, an immortal being, tending to the ever-dozing body of a Dad; the Emperor of a Mega-Imperium, one spanning many galaxies.
Everything. Is trash.
Cosmological oddities plague the universe. None remembers what gold looks like. Aliens persist, a worse threat than ever. Solar systems brimful.
And they must all
fight the inevitable heat-death of the universe.

If Article 13 happens, I'm not be legally allowed to tell you that this would be a sequel and that it would take place in the same 'universe' as TTS, albeit many years into the future.
But I might be heavily implying that is the case.

Okay, thank you very much for reading.
I really do think, and hope, Article 13 won't happen. But, if it does, expect me to make another massive post about it.

Until next time, have a good one!!

Mikel Mandaluniz

Any news? Any updates?

Psychopath

I thought that was the whole point of this time simulation thing, I'll have to check my matrix connections, but I though that the collective consciousness formed a solid external image for the rest of the universe, and our extances trickle through those images, which we've domained as the artistic imagery of man...some of which looks and behaves like 40k....which was created to counter and control some of the older images (eg. the mainstream religions).

Meta Sol

Fuck, I'm down for Battlemace 42 Million, but still, fuck stupid censorship laws.

Meta Sol

Well EU parliment definietly sometimes reminds me of High Lords of Terra XD

Crow-4

I think this bill being past has just taken the edge of leaving the eu. Feel free to come stay and upload in england in two years my house is always Open.

TheBeastIsBack

if they allow you to make a censored, consumer friendly version of the show you could call it the "chapter approved" version. heh.

Jimbob

You should do a short video criticizing Article 13 like you did with the Adeptus Arbites & the hobo who converted to Chaos. Call it "Unsubtle Criticism starring the High Lords of Terra"

Psychopath

Try thinking of it as somthing like this. You could try Things the way Rooster teeth and Microsoft work together with halo. Most halo games were Rated M, But always did feel more of a hard T. I think Red vs blue finds it’s succses by how it’s a lighter yet also more Adult take on halo, drawing in people who would otherwise walk by or be on the fence, and after all these years they actually get along well enough for official promotions and even Its own game mode (griffball). If article 13 really IS as bad is it can be, shouldn’t you at least have that sort of deal with gamesworkshop prepared as the nuclear option? They really do need more ways to cater to a wider audience, especially if they’re trying somthing like “Warhammer Adventures”, so maybe you have ground to stand on. And I’m More than certain some Gamesworkshop staff really enjoy your work. Is’nt it tempting to try and strike gold with this? Just the idea of your series Playing of the official warhammer YouTube channel. Maybe even get them to lend some extra hands to speed up episode production. You have options is all i’m Saying.

Brandon Guzman

Parliament? All hope truly is lost. On the bright side though, you now get to live in the sort of oppressive police state that's been depicted in 40K, so that's something.

Psychopath

Just knowing a scale of progress is really great and builds suspense.

GUYFUN

They can take our lives but not our porn.

GUYFUN

Hey, I'm from Belgium so I know a thing or two about complicated things ;) Anyway, I did some research and I foud a rather interesting article about the new law: https://edri.org/next-steps-copyright-directive-article-13/ It seems there was quite a bit of opposition (15 against 10) and the exact text still has to be defined. Afterwards the defenitive text has to be approved (not before December 2018/January 2019). Knowing European Laws, I guess in the end all will be pretty vague.

HiNo

It's to controversial for the guys who invented Slanesh?

naterist

Honestly, while there are people like you who tell me that they've gotten into 40k through TTS, I think it's a bit too 'controverisal' for their corporate taste. Which, y'know, I can understand, the series IS pretty unsavoury, which is parts of its... charm, I guess??

Alfabusa

If this is the case, it'd be very good, but I am unsure that is the case over here. We don't have proper Fair Use laws like people do in the US. But, who knows, maybe there is some loophole that could be abused. Maybe.

Alfabusa

It was just approved, but it hasn't passed yet! Still needs to go through parliament, where (hopefully) the rational people are located.

Alfabusa

I think Article 13 would cover all sites, including porn sites!

Alfabusa

Nah nah, I'll go for 10, it's a nice and round number, and I have no real reason to hold out any longer on you!

Alfabusa

Thank you for the very nice words <3.

Alfabusa

To be honest, while moving to another country would work in theory, I think it'd be too intense. The paperwork and sheer planning would be horrendous, my partner is in the middle of studying to become a nurse, I've got my family, my roots and my comfort here, and an intense fear of flying doesn't help things either. And, for all that it's worth, these laws may as well come to apply in whatever country I move too as well if they provide the 'desired results' in Europe. In addition, the exact same results could be garnered by just sending any given future episode to someone outside of the country, which is another alternative to consider, of course.

Alfabusa

Can't you just ask gamesworkshop for permission to keep making This? Tell em it's good for business, cause it is. A year ago I wasnt into wh40k, and now I'm halfway through the hours heresey, all because episode 1 of tts made me laugh.

naterist

https://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/2018/06/europe-advances-copyright-law-that-could-filter-the-internet/ A good article on the law Alfa is referring to.

I'm not 100% sure, but I thought that parodies don't fall under the copyright law. So if you put into a disclaimer that TTS is a parodie and other necessairy information, I believe you and TTS should be safe. I don't now the exact details, but it is sure something to look into.

HiNo

The EU committee just approved Article 13. You sure you don't want to move to the United States? You'd have rights. You wouldn't have to live in a crumbling Orwellian regime. You could live in a pristine Orwellian regime instead.

Psychopath

If Article 13 comes online, UPLOAD THEM TTS INTO PORNHUB/XHAMSTER/ANY PORN SITE

Keraz

Also if you think 10 days is too short a time you can increase the time. I'm sure none of us poor Rattlings under the boot of the High Lords of Europa would complain.

GUYFUN

I'm not in the EU so there isn't really much I can do for ya, other than hope that things go well.... sooo.... hope things go well.

OrdoXenosAgent

All I want is for some version of malice to be cannon in any universe. :(

Jest

( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

GUYFUN

No, Malice will not exist in Battlemace 42million.

GUYFUN

Considering your peerage and considering Brexit.... how about you settle down with Kitten in the realm of Ængland. This has the bonus of Warhammer World too.

GUYFUN

Would you call a cactus evil? I thought not, it's a Sith legend. What was I talking about again?

GUYFUN

I'm going to firebomb the highlords of the eu if they do this to us.

GUYFUN

The thought of TTS being canceled makes me Crusade Internally. I am sure from all of us that support you, we will follow you wherever go. No matter what happens. Your videos made me see a universe that was absolutely amazing, and the spin you put on it makes you one of a million. Thank You for everything you do Alfa. Emperor Bless

Azai Akuma 浅井氏

Does the Codex Astartes cover legion building with dreadnoughts ?

TheKrak

We must fortify this position

Shin

This would have been a horrendous idea years ago, but GW have genuinely become a bit more friendly over the years. Honestly could work.

medhathobo

Kitten removes his helmet: I am Rogal Dorn. Rogal Dorn: ... No

Paul Calhoun

This kind of creative liberty, I love.

Alfabusa

post like this are why I love you Alfa, you just can't get this brand of crazy and fun from the US, with the person being evil. And I'm fairly certain that you're not evil, mostly.

Bomani Kernizan

I think moving to America might be the bigger pain, to be entirely honest.

Alfabusa

inb4 Kitten is actually one of the two lost primarchs in the new canon... ...and the old canon too?

Shin

Alternatively, you could just move to America and continue TTS as usual. Whichever is the smaller pain the in ass.

Psychopath

Will the angry marines be cannon in battlemace? What about malice? If so then you've sold me.

Jest

Battlemace sounds like it could take things to the 3rd or 4th order of abstraction, which sounds pretty rad to me. Necro-crons - A race of immortal robots who can transform their bodies into breakfast foods Tyrannosauropods - Intergalactic raptors who constantly pop up in unexpected places while you're looking at something more important and when you look back, whatever it was is gone Eldar - Literal space elves. As in, literally from Valinor Calaquendi probably from the Teleri branch because if GW can get away with using that name, so can you. The Empire - Humans who go around in giant Onion Domed ships and mechs The Upsilon Imperium - Teal Space Communists with a Chinese flavor Dark Eldar - Moriquendi, goes around forcing people to be one with the trees Morks - An entire race that looks like Robin Williams, from the planet Ork. Answers to the Big Giant Head Alfar - Race of aliens from Alf (retconned out of existence because they were too weird) Sisters of Peace - They enforce peace ... if everyone's dead, its' peaceful right? Janitors - Emperor's personal guard (They're there to mop up!) Order - They tried to order the Emperor around and everyone got really angry. Lives in an entire galaxy where the rotation has been stilled and all the planets slammed together into a few really big planets for some reason. Home to giant weird things that like big planets and to tell people what to do Emperor's Knights - Guys in big armor who go around shouting and telling other people what to do, hence how they so often end up working for Order.

Paul Calhoun

Why not seek an endorsement from Games Workshop? Bungie was always cool with Red Vs Blue doing it's thing.
