Dear Patrons
We've had a great response to our latest Honest Government Ad about the Calition's nuclear "plan"; which has had 350,000 views in just the first day across our pages.
Unfortunately, some people really don't like what we do and have seen fit to start inciting people to dox us - as you can see from the screengrab here.
As a parent of a young family, I take these threats seriously. I also am concerned for our actors. But reporting these posts (which I have done) does little, as X is now virtually unmoderated.
The harassment we've been receiving lately on X also includes a concerted campaign claiming that we're being funded by Putin/Russia, which is not only false - we are 100% independent and supported by our Patrons - but also idiotic, as we criticise Russia in our videos regularly (as recently as November, in our HGA about Myanmar, in our HGA about Democracy, and others before that)
Meanwhile another mob on X is trying to paint us as cheerleaders for American imperialism - our video about Myanmar for example was attacked for being unfairly anti-Russia! (There's just no pleasing X users is there)
And when you add to this the fact that so many X users are either bots or humans seemingly unconcerned about data and evidence, it's hard not to feel that Twitter/X has become a cesspool of idiocy, disinformation and harassment.
Which is why I'm posting to let you know a few things:
1) We're on Bluesky:

I don't post often, but when I do it reminds me of Twitter in the old days, and most of the people we respect are there too.
2) I won't be deleting our Twitter yet, as that would be ceding ground to the arseholes; and our videos there still reach hundreds of thousands of people. But I have not been posting or engaging there much for the past few months. And if the threats intensify, I may decide to close that account.
3) the best place to engage with me/us is right here on Patreon - where I love engaging with you and do my best to respond to all your messages/DMs (even if sometimes a bit belatedly). So even if you don't follow us on any other platform, that's ok: we're here!
4) These threats and harassment are very unsettling, but they're not going to stop us from continuing our work. Nor should they detract from the fact that our HGA about Nuclear is receiving an overwhelmingly positive response.
(I think this is partly due to the fact that we strategically approached the topic from a policy / cost / energy / engineering perspective - rather than a safety and waste management angle - which of course are also very important angles, but ones that would have been less likely to be shared widely in communities sympathetic to nuclear power generally. And judging by the views and comments, this approach is working well)
Thank you for having our backs here on Patreon. With all the craziness that's going on in the world right now, this feels like home and a friendly corner of the internet. Which we dearly cherish.

I becme aware due to Pateron sending a me a message that my account with him had the card rejected (I thought I had paid yours). When I checked I found I had no t paid yours either. Owen has had life threats and one actual physical attack from far right people and reports that he gets really bad abuse on Instegram and is now withdrawiing from that medium. Like you he is superb and think needs to be supported to do his work. An eg of the value of your work is, I have not seen your nuclear cast yet but had sent it to him. He sent it back to me forgetting Id sent it, which means he has forwarded it to others. His comment was this tells you all you need to know. That is the beauty of your stuff, in 5 mins your reseearch and presenetetion does just that. This works especially for well connnected progressive people, like me he is an ex EXXON/Mobil geologist, Esso Australia, I then went ont teachinh, he stayed for a whole career. He is a key member of a massive m,otorcycle club. I travelled up to see them for the Ulysses AGM at Armidale and he had Tory card carrying members in that crowd, so with the info you give these idiots can not dominate the floor, which is what they attempt. This is what they are accustomed to as ex high powered execs etc. So yu work is invaluable and I am proud to have reinstated my support. I would never have let it lapse but for a mistiake on my part. Thankyou so much. This absolutely loves your work by the way. It would be nice if he subscribed. He is a progressive but mixes in a Tory world, so eg re Palestine, he repeated the bollocks about Israelis were under an existential threat re Oct 7th, a Israeli propaganda talking point plugged by our media and pathetic pollies. I did not want to alianate him with a one sided lecture, so the only option, to show him a great academic book on the topic and leave it up to him, subtly saying he is talking bollocks. Dangerous bollocks that enables a genocide. It is on thing like this for people like him that you work really counts. P;lus his wife a person seriously attempting to get TEALs up and running in their seat in Melbourne. Well connected, well meaning, middle class, progressive values. You give them ammo and skills. Vital. Vital for me too. You and people like Owen are vital, absolute gems. That is why you get attacked. It is a sign of success. PS off to my greens party seat of macquarie camapign launch now.

We have a wealth of options including solar power, water power, geothermal power generation as well as wind power and all of these combined will generating 6x the power of the one nuclear powerplant, and much sooner to, at the fraction of the cost. It's a no brainer really, companies need to shift their mindset it's simply a blockbuster video scenario, if you don't change with the needs of the times, they'll end up out of business and forgotten. Coal and nuclear power are the blockbuster of this scenario, that's why they're promoting green energy.

I tend to forget that I'm in a bit of a silo in politics. I see The Juice and I probably spend too much time on Reddit, and it makes me feel like most people have the same or similar opinions as me. I have to remember that Reddit (at least r/australia) is pretty left leaning and, unfortunately, not indicative of the entire country. It blows my minds and scares me that we have people like this in our society. Regardless of how bad I think Dutton (and the Liberal party) is for our future, I'm not planning on stalking and assaulting him and party members, because who does that? It's terrifying to think of how many people like this exist in our society and we just don't know about it... yet.

Instead of cracking down on fraud, overcharging, waste and dodgy providers, the govt have decided on a knee jerk crackdown on participants. We randomly get sent letters forcing us to provide more evidence that we remain eligible for the NDIS or we get canned. They have changed the rules around supports, so now rather than living a purposeful life, we can only have supports that permit basic human existence. I could go on... I'm very angry.

But I'm not sure we've all learned our lesson from that, because Bluesky also lacks the one feature that would protect us from it happening again: the ability to take the content weβve put there and go to another host with it. Bluesky have repeatedly said they *want* to implement this through βfederatingβ onto multiple servers β and if they actually do, Iβm suddenly interested β but actions speak louder than words, and everything Bluesky is still to this day hosted on one server controlled by a centralised corporation who wonβt let you leave. Until they do what they say they want to, Iβm not gonna make the same mistake and put my content into a lockbox that they have the only key to. And I donβt recommend anyone else does either, or I fear the same pain awaits a few years down the road, whenever Bluesky β who've now taken on cryptocurrency venture capital, incidentally β makes a decision youβre not comfortable with on moderation, or AI, or advertising, or whatever. Or gets sold, or simply loses popularity to another service, or whatever. And of course if Bluesky ever does do the right thing and federates and then looks a better bet than Mastodon, we can just move our content and our followers there. Thatβs the whole point β federation gives us the power! Bluesky, by contrast, takes the power and promises to do the right things with it, but leaves us to take the pain if they donβt. And when you add in the impossible pressures of capitalism as popularity grows, with investors looking to monetise the serviceβs users β and Bluesky just having taken on that venture capital from Blockchain Capital... So as someone whose work clearly demonstrate that you get this stuff, just a note to say I'd highly recommend skipping that next investment/disappointment and heading straight to Mastodon, which truly has no centralised owner so can't be bought, and where if those hosting you implement something that you don't like, you can just leave and take your followers/content with you somewhere else. It's what the internet originally promised to be, it's inexorably growing as more and people come to understand the corporate bait-and-switch, and frankly, it's a damn fun place! All platforms are full of wind bags, just ignore them and move on. It is unfortunate that it can be hard to tell the difference between an internet tough guy and a genuine threat. Keep up the good work and I hope the whole team can be safe. Also, don't be afraid to report these threats to the police. Freedom of speech is not freedom from consequences after all.
