Watch/Listen: Stephen DeStefano, Robbie Busch and I Talk Horror Comics

Cartoonist, character designer and storyboard artist Stephen DeStefano has started a Patreon for his work as well as a Youtube channel where he has been interviewing comics and animation professionals. Wednesday night Stephen had me and cartoonist, artist and owner of Buzzed Monkey Records in Brooklyn, Robbie Busch on to talk about horror comics. As usual when I'm involved, our discussion runs long. Because someone talks a lot.

Some of you know Stephen and Robbie as being two of the five creators involved in the old Instant Piano comic series from Dark Horse, the other three being Mark Badger, Kyle Baker and myself. Stephen and Robbie both worked with me on the old Marvel Comics Bill and Ted series, Stephen inking my pencils for part of the Bogus Journey adaptation as well as the first three issues, and Robbie coloring much of the run. There was a Superman short story Stephen drew that I wrote, which was a series of pages from The Toyman's holiday catalogue for supervillains and criminal organizations.

Stephen has worked mainly in animation for some time now, his credits include Ren and Stimpy, The Venture Brothers, Batman, Superman, Brave and the Bold, the Hotel Transylvania movies, Samurai Jack, Primal, Scooby Doo, Futurama and many, many others. He also did the storyboards for a failed pilot called Welcome to Eltingville. He's one of the most talented guys around and it was great to hang out with him and Robbie the other night. It's Robbie's birthday on Sunday so we'll be getting together with a bunch of people for dinner. It's like I'm having a social life of sorts lately.

BTW, you will learn stuff from Stephen's patreon, he's been doing this for 40 years and has had a lot of experience drawing characters known world-wide and working in tv, comics and film. Link here: https://www.patreon.com/cw/StephenDeStefano911

It's very heavy on old school comics from the 50s to the 80s. If you like that stuff, or just want to hear what aging cartoonists think about a bunch of comics, cartoonists and movies, give it a whirl. I recommend inking comics while listening.

Oh! And I almost forget, early on in the video we are joined by a very Special Guest -- Winky thr Pirate Girl! Earlier today she wrecked some shelving on a kitchen counter chasing a mouse and both of her wet food bowls broke into pieces. It was a scene. So, you can check out a time when Winky was a calmer little pirate cat. And we get a quick view of Stephen's cat, as well.

It would have been with you for sure! Still working on it!

You may have discussed it with someone else recently as well, but I'd like to think it was our conversation about a story called Good Lord Choke (under this post: https://www.patreon.com/posts/138768841) that you were remembering!

I quote a line that Stephen DeStefano said on Venture Bros a lot: "Look, your Marvel comics, I read Archie, okay." I don't know why, it's just very funny to me.
