Busy month. Let's update.
Tomorrow is the block party in Fort Greene, Brooklyn, featuring live music, deejays, dancing in the street, probably a few vendors and a bunch of cartoonists set up outside Buzzed Monkey Records. I'll be there with fellow Instant Pianist (and Welcome to Eltingville storyboard artist) Stephen DeStefano, R. Sikoryak, and others. Robbie Busch of Buzzed Moneky records will be floating around so that's 3/5 of Instant Piano in the same place. Been a while. Things start at 2 pm, we'll be at 88 S. Portland Ave. I'll be bringing a few comics I have extras of, maybe a copy or two of the Beasts of Burden Omnibus, and sketching supplies. Will do free quick sketches, and cheap "commissions". Hope to see a few people stop by.
Oct 30th is the Tear Them Apart Halloween hangout live on Youtube. I'll be running home from therapy to check my notes, which I will then ignore once we get gabbing.
I just got word a little while ago that I sold my third story for the EC/Oni revival anthologies. Not sure if this one will be running in Catacomb of Torment like the first two, or in another title. Hoping that Lukas Ketner can join me again for this one, which is called "Death Groove". Had to ask to push the deadline back a few weeks because October is stuffed.
Speaking of EC, Catacomb of Torment #5 comes out next month with our second story, "Necronomicomicon". I'm supposed to be doing another signing at JHU Comics on Staten Island the day it comes out.
Speaking of signings, everything is set for the upcoming Halloween event at Four Color Fantasies in Winchester, VA on October 25th. My hotel room is booked and the offspring has agreed to send me photos of Winky while I'm gone. My first trip in a long time.
Nothing is set, and it's a long way off, but I've been invited to do a convention late next year. More if and when it happens.
Speaking of things are a ways off, I'll be doing a signing at JHU Comics the day Nerd Inferno comes out (April 21st, 2026). And I've been asked to do another signing the following week. More on that when/if.
Speaking of Nerd Inferno, while I am hoping a lot of folks hit up their local comic shop to preorder the book (if they have a local comic shop), I want to thank everyone who's already preordered it online for their support. The same goes for folks spreading the word. We are seeing a healthy response to the book's announcement, and for a while it was racking up some solid numbers on Amazon for a book coming out next Spring. Thanks very much.
I did another interview with Back Issue Magazine for an article about Milk & Cheese that will be published next year.
The potential non-comics projects now tally at four. I've been doing a lot of zoom meetings, writing a lot of e-mails and last weekend I finished up some pitch art. Can't talk about any of this stuff, but I can say none of them involve an Eltingville Club cartoon. Just feel the need to make that clear these days. It's been a little overwhelming, and time-consuming. And, of course, most of these kinds of things get past the talking stage, so, I have no expectations. Whatever happens, happens. Or whatever doesn't happen, doesn't happen.
A job I was offered recently isn't happening, because I didn't want to work with a company based on a recent and very public decision they made. I wanted to do the gig, and I can always use a paycheck, even a smallish one. It's a shame.
Had to replace about 40 AD markers this week, some pencils and a few correction pens. A little over $250 worth. Can't do the work without the supplies, but the prices, they are a-rising.
I'm having some problems drawing lately. It's been very frustrating. Some of it's pain, some of it's...I don't know what it is. I'm throwing a lot more prelims and drawings out than usual. The other day I ruined a Fun Strip for the Patreon that was in good shape and almost done, I have to trace the whole thing off now. Something needs sorting out. Maybe just a string of bad days at the drawing board. Doesn't help that Winky won't let me work in peace. I love her but she's a needy little pirate.
Off to put together my stuff for tomorrow.
More, soon, later.
