I used to do a lot of drawings for free at conventions, I'm assuming this is one of them. I didn't stop doing freebies, I just didn't have as much time at the table to knock them out. Back in the day there was very little on the table, a few comics and some original art priced to move. So I'd mostly draw quick sketches, and sometimes commissions for around $20 that I'd spend more time and attention on. I didn't draw all that hot in 1991, especially without extensive penciling, the jokes were usually more effective than the draftsmanship. So I almost always added jokes.
Ye gods, look at the fading on the markers I used to use on sketches. Sharpies. Oy gevalt. So glad I stopped using them. I feel so bad when someone shows me an old drawing I did for them and the ink has faded. I'm just glad folks still seem happy with the drawing. This sketch was sent to me by a longtime fan who is still happy that he got a few drawings back in the day, and that makes me feel pretty swell. I still want to redraw it, of course.
I used to write down everything I made at shows, because I was (and still am) a compulsive list maker. If I recall correctly I drew a lot of sketches of Wolverine back in the day. Hopefully most of them disappeared. It's hard to look at old sketches of my own characters, let alone the superheroes. I didn't have a good sense of anatomy, and I also didn't have a good take on stylizing the things I wasn't good at drawing. Like anatomy. The upside is that my work has improved with time. But I still find my artwork to be constant fight between cartooning and the atavistic remnants of my attempts at becoming a superhero artist. It drives me crazy.
Anyway, despite what Milk & Cheese say, robots aren't stupid. Robots are cool. Robots, monsters. Robot Monster. Well, he's not exactly cool, but I like him anyway.

I should draw him sometime. I hoped to do some drawings for Halloween but my drawing time is limited these days, so t's been work only. I've been posting old drawings on social media since old drawings are still new to someone.
Speaking of drawing, I finished inking the cover that I've posted about recently as a WIP. I'll hold on to the inks for a while as I'm supposed to keep those things under my hat before they're officially announced. I am not wearing a hat, pretend I am. Pick whichever hat you think appropriate. Just no golfing hats with the pompom on top. Not those, please. Please, I beg you.
I can say that I have three more covers to draw in the coming weeks/months, so there will be more WIP posts coming up. One of the covers...well, that would be telling. Publishing news. I miss the days when you could just say whatever you wanted, more or less. Two of the upcoming covers are for other folks, but one is for something of my own that's in the works. I haven't drawn these characters for print in a while so that cover will be fun. I have some commissions nosed along as well, so I will actually have some art posts coming up for you that aren't from 1991. Which is the year I started making comics full-time. Holy Zod, I am getting up in years.
I need to take old person pills now. Good night!
