WIP Sketch And Stuff

Process sketch for something I'm drawing for something.

I went through a lot of revisions and ideas for the overall design. Finally hit on something I liked a few days ago, got the go ahead, finished the pencils and started the inks. Unfortunately, something happened (or didn't happen), so it's getting banked, hopefully it will get used later. I'm going to finish it asap. I'd like to show the completed pencil job because I think it came out well, but I'm not sure if I can or not. It's a freebie for a fundraiser, but who the hell knows these days. Everything is corporate or feels corporate, even non-commercial stuff. Everything is uptight. Makes me itchy.

I actually have two work for hire gigs to push forward now that this drawing is getting pushed back, and the Rick and Morty cover thing happened. I was asked to do a cover design for an upcoming ska compilation. When's the last time I could say that? Twenty, twenty-three years ago? I don't have a good grasp of the design yet, it's driving me nuts. I want it to be good but I'm overwhelmed and still behind on so much stuff. But it was also something I felt I had to say "yes" to because it feels like a last hurrah kind of thing, if you get me. No one asks me for album art anymore, not for some time. Once my art got better people stopped asking. I guess I shouldn't be too sad, because indy record outfits have, like, no money for cover art (or much of anything), and in the 90s I could better afford to work for indy record company rates. Still, pretty cool.

Speaking of ye olden days, I'm actually drawing two comic book story pages for a project some friends of mine are doing. I'm kind of nervous! I feel so rusty at "comics" comics. How does that process go, again? Layouts...what are layouts..?

I'll post more on that stuff when I am legally able to and all that stuff.
