Comic Book Ephemera Item Of The Day

While cleaning up the office last weekend I found the EC Library volume that I got signed by Al Feldstein.

Feldstein's EC bio ran in The Haunt of Fear #12, I tried to get folks to sign the bio pages if and when it was possible.

I completely forgot that I was given this Feldstein print at the signing (SDCC 2000).

Further reading: My Patreon post about meeting and briefly interacting with Al Feldstein (from July, 2022). Thinking about it now, I'm pretty sure Grant Geissman, who has written or co-written many EC books over the last few decades, urged Al Feldstein to give me one because he knew I was a cartoonist/fan. I didn't have a copy of the book they were promoting (Foul Play?) because I had one waiting for me at my local shop (with a 40% discount, if not for trade). They were giving the prints to folks who were picking up the new book.

For more on Al Feldstein, my meeting him (twice) and briefly interacting with him (once, an anxiety-inducing affair) , here's a link to a longer Patreon post about the man from July, 2022:

I didn't name the artist because I heard it second hand (from a source I trust, but still, I'm not comfortable saying who it is). It's neither of the two you named, however, I will say that. It's in fact someone with a more fluid, brush-like line, tight but not, let's say, super-precise. Whatever works on the page, it's not a crime or anything. Artists are sometimes secretive and weird about their process and "mystique", some are way more uptight than others, and it's someone I know through the business, so, I'll leave it at that.

Hi Evan! I was just listening to you talk about inking on the Comic Stans podcast (it's a great interview!) and you mentioned that you were surprised to discover that a certain artist finished their inks with a rapidograph to get their lines perfect. I was wondering who that might have been? Hernandez and Burns would be my two chief suspects. Sorry this isn't Feldstein related, but I'd love to know!

Thanks for this! Never met him, so I appreciate your perspective.
