Milk & Cheese "Merv Griffin" Full Page Recreation

I'm still looking it over to see if there's any little mistakes or unfinished corrections in the details. But otherwise, I'm calling this way overdue commission done. Whew.

The original is one of my best-known comics. I am fond of it and I'm happy folks like it but it's hard for me to look at the printed comic (I finally sold the page a few years ago after holding onto it for nostalgic reasons. I realized I can't pay dental and car repair bills with nostalgic reasons, so, yeah. It's lines on paper, scan it and sell it if you can. Pretty much).

I am planning to make this recreation available as a print for the top tier backers. It's almost 7 a.m. and I'm too wiggy to do any more scanning. I am still new to scanning through Photoshop and still goofing up. Besides, I might spy something that needs fixing.

I don't think I'll be doing anymore recreations of this strip (this is my second) unless I can get idiotic money for it. It took forever. That's on me, as always. Had to draw more stuff. Like I was overcompensating for the original page or something. Yikes, it's probably true.

I've got another commission I've been working on that went to hell a few days ago. I couldn't right the plane after some things went wrong in the engines and it nosedived from all the white correction ink on it. tried fixing it for quite a while and thought I could save it. Had to give up, finally. I can't present a commission to someone that looks like that as a physical object so I threw in the crying towel and started over (I think I put in at least 30 hours into it over time). Anyway, I'm re-penciling it, which sucks, but I can trace off the good elements of the almost-finished piece (from a printed copy) and since I know where I went wrong it's going pretty quickly. And it looks better so far. And I feel a lot better about it, it was stressing me out so much. It's another recreation, it's also now a recreation of a failed recreation. Doing recreations of old work is kind of weird, my drawing has changed a lot since the 90s (for the better). Sometimes I'm amazed I got so much work back then. Sometimes? All the time.

Speaking of work, it looks like I have some illustration stuff to juggle in along with finishing the Beasts of Burden script. Benjamin Dewey is taking a breather from interiors so I can push that back a little, try to finish up some commissions and plan out the new stuff. One's a small cartoony charity piece for a fundraiser, I got most of the main figure figured out tonight. I've been trying to get more little card drawings up on my Instagram, also. Everything counts in large or small amounts.

Okay, I have to go lie down now. Stupid sun's coming up. Ugh.

Good night in the morning.

It's a lot of squinting and making tiny lines. Thanks for the kind comment about it.

I cannot imagine what’s involved in getting all that detail to work so beautifully. I salute you, sir! Still an incredible page.
