Advance Copy Photos: Blackwood Library Edition

Yesterday I received an advance copy of the Blackwood Library Edition from Dark Horse, and I'm very pleased with how it turned out.

The hardcover book is oversized, measuring app 8 1/2" by 12 1/2". It collects all eight issues of the series to date. Co-creator Veronica Fish's original covers are printed as chapter pages between the issues. The back matter includes all of the variant covers (by Becky Cloonan, Tyler Crook, Peach Momoko, myself and others), all of Veronica's character portrait back covers, process and production notes and images from Veronics Fish, Andy Fish and myself. There's also a new page showing off Veronica's cover process and designs for the new edition.

I just realized they didn't include page numbers, which I hate. ugh. But according to the solicitation material, the book is 240 pages. There is a dust jacket, though. Fancy shmancy.

The book ships on October 12, just in time for Halloween. You can order it from your local comic or bookshop. Here's the Dark Horse solicitation here on the DHC website: https://www.darkhorse.com/Books/3010-578/Blackwood-Library-Edition-Volume-1-HC

It hits Amazon on October 25th, still in time for Halloween. The evil empire link is: https://www.amazon.com/Blackwood-Library-Evan-Dorkin/dp/150673183X/ref=sr_1_1?crid=2L2Q11MTY51KX&keywords=blackwood+library+edition&qid=1661196828&s=books&sprefix=blackwood+library+edition%2Cstripbooks%2C55&sr=1-1

Veronica and I have been talking about getting back to Blackwood and starting on the third arc as soon as possible. If you're not sure about the series, the two paperbacks are in some libraries if you want to try checking the comics out. So far we're the only occult school series that I know of that hasn't even started school yet, eight issues in and the spring semester is still weeks away. If you like the idea of an occult school that avoids the usual stuff, where the only wands in sight are used by security as a metal detector, you might enjoy Blackwood. It's kind of like if Beasts of Burden was about humans, and the characters were a lot more like those in Hectic Planet.
