It's been a wild ride, but I've finally finished the first testable demo of the RPG Map Maker project I've been dreaming of working on ever since I started this Patreon. The current build features most of what I wanted to get out there for phase 1 of the project. The goal of this phase was to make it so people could actually make animated random encounter maps with the demo and export them for use in their games straight away.
The key features are integrated shadow maps for all objects, height maps for all objects so we can start placing them based on where they are in 3D space, animation for all flora and a conversion of all the seasons I've worked on so far.
Now to finish up phase 1 I want to make the height system adjustable inside the tool, want to implement some minor bug fixes and fix the export to get quality loops. Right now it's not 100% looping as it should be.
Once that is done I'd like to move to phase 2 and that is either water or a building system. Both will obviously be implemented but I'll have to discuss with Mark what is the most interesting one to move forward with. I think having the random encounter concept fully covered could be the most interesting.
After that it's a bunch more tools I want to work on to get it closer to that cosy map maker tool I've been wanting to build.
Want to say special thanks to everyone of you whose supported me at any point. It's made getting to work on this project possible, and if enough people are down to join me down this journey of fully building this editor we can take this project all the way.
I've reorganized the tier system somewhat to reflect this journey.
I still need Mark to pack the tool, do some minor fixes to get it in your hands and then all Party Tier members will get to try it out. I do plan on making it so that in the future it's managable to support at multiple levels to get updates like I've done with dungeondraft, for now we'll continue using this system until we can get it more stable. Once it's packed and ready to try out, I will be looking for feedback as we move along.
Thanks for hanging in there, I've been somewhat of a recluse to get it ready to go, that was my main priority.
