48-52: The aftermath
Added 2025-10-20 07:00:10 +0000 UTCDawn comes. The fighting has fizzled out; the last alien hold-outs overwhelmed and extinguished. In the streets, tired Imperial Troopers begin the mournful task of recovering their dead.
Lifeless bodies are lifted, carried or dragged through the streets, still sealed inside their enviro-helms. Their bulky rebreather equipment means that the corpses have to be laid out face-down. Officers and NCOs lie beside line-troopers, anonymous and unmourned.
As the sun begins to rise, the first of the heavy lifter-craft arrive from orbit. Ponderous and wallowing, it lowers its vast bulk down onto stubby landing gear and opens it's gaping mouth to reveal a cavernous hold space. Inside, disposal droids patiently await their grim task.

Probably not to these girls but I'm sure there's some pen pushers somewhere above them in orbit celebrating. I'm not sure whether to be shocked, relived or even mildly disappointed that Lola seems to have survived, I've gotten too used to seeing named POV characters getting killed off in recent years. I would've bet money that's the direction the story was going from the earlier posts. I remember an earlier comment about no medics, but not even with the cleanup crew? I guess either those laser weapons really are 100% lethal, or those droids have the less pleasant job of quietly 'dealing' with the wounded away from sight and mind of the survivors; the Empire cares only for those that can still hold a lasgun. Almost a full year of monthly-ish posts (though I know you said started this even longer ago) but it's a little shame it's over now. I do hope it's a theme we can see a return to someday. Would love to eventually see more of these red-suited gals and the Empire they serve.
