Moon Marines

Something of a space theme for this month; I picked up this outfit a few months ago and really liked it's hard (ish) sci-fi aesthetic. OK, it's not actually functional as a spacesuit- you'd get too cold- but it owes more to the Expanse than to Barbarella. Expect to see more of it, once I can find some support weapons that fit the style.

53-58: The end.

Dispassionate mechanical fingers remove the bulky helmets and re-breather packs from the fallen Troopers. Boots, belts and gloves are stripped from the dead and packed away to be re-conditioned and re-issued to the Empress' new recruits. In an empire spanning hundreds of worlds, there is never any shortage of willing volunteers, eager for a chance to serve their sovereign and establish Humanity's dominance across the stars.

The dead will be disposed of, their names forgotten except as ...

Keeping it in the spirit of the season, November's first render is one I've been working on for a while: An all-out battle between Angels and their demonic foes!

Last gasp of Summer

Remember Summer? Feels like a long time ago. Last bit of bikini-by-the-pool action before winter kicks in, because this is the last render for October!

Snowy steps

Third render for October is up- I started with the character in the foreground and built a narrative around what she was doing down there. The hair on the right is supposed to be dforce but I'm not happy about how it obscures the face. Unfortunately, I don't really have time to do anything about it.

48-52: The aftermath

Dawn comes. The fighting has fizzled out; the last alien hold-outs overwhelmed and extinguished. In the streets, tired Imperial Troopers begin the mournful task of recovering their dead.

Lifeless bodies are lifted, carried or dragged through the streets, still sealed inside their enviro-helms. Their bulky rebreather equipment means that the corpses have to be laid out face-down. Officers and NCOs lie beside line-troopers, anonymous and unmourned.

As the sun begins to rise, the fi...

Important: Notice about possible changes

I want to let people know in advance of some possible changes I might have to make.

I've got something of a family emergency brewing that has the potential to drastically curtail the free time I have available and I'm likely going to struggle to create enough new material to keep up with my publishing schedule.

While I'm hoping that everything will blow over and I'll be able to continue as I am, I think it's likely that in the next month or so, I'll half all prices, but also hal...

Halloween battle in the mix.

Renderhub have frequent render competitions, and the one at the moment is Halloween-themed: https://www.renderhub.com/3d-contests/horrific-render-contest-4

Obviously there'll be a Halloween render to go up here and on Deviantart and Pixiv, just like last year, but I'm also working on one for this competition. Being me, there'll be lots of women involved instead of one, and they'll al...

Long Live the Fighters!

A sci-fi sword-fight has been on my to-do list ever since I watched the Dune remake: Here's October's second render!

T20: Mona

Mona had always been a good runner. She'd competed for her county when she was younger, been one of the best track athletes at her School, made the first team at Uni. Running wasn't just a way to stay in shape, it was meditation- a calm, safe place where she could just let herself be free, with only the road, or the track, or the path in front of her. She'd seen the others looking at her, tottering on their expensive, designer-label high heels, when she'd turned up for duty in comfortable, fl...

Elves vs Goblins: 106-111

On her hands and knees and screaming in agony, Betsan feels the gaping emptiness in her belly, as her eviscerated bowels tumble messily from her ripped-open bodice, soaking Loren’s sacred soil with more than just her life’s blood. Her ragged, rasping cries go unheard amongst the clamour of blades and the atavistic screeches of furious, terrified Goblins.

On the Elven right flank, Cerys struggles to retain control of her shield, warding the edge of a rusted halberd away with her swor...

It's October! Here's the first render for the month: Amazon Marines forcing a landing on a rocky beach beside a pirate haven, not letting a few casualties slow them down.

Here's what I've been working on this month...

It's been a busy month and I haven't had much free time available: Mostly, I've been working to set up some weekly renders. Here's a glimpse at some of what I've been up to:

  • A gang shoot-out which will be a bit larger when it's finished. I'm not entirely happy with the costumes yet.

  • A street fight between ninjas and Onna Bushi warriors: I think this pair will form the centre-piece. Not sure if it'll be an ambush from the roofs, or more of a pitched battle.

44-47: The fight ebbs

Like rats in their holes, the last of the defenders have gone to ground in the homes and alleys of their town, forcing the storm-troopers to hunt them down one by one. Each door-way holds peril; each skulking alien takes one or two more human soldiers with him as he is exterminated.

Lola and her comrades press forwards, knowing they are almost done with this battle. The end is in sight; the outcome a foregone conclusion.

The dead and the dying lie in the streets, in every door-w...

T19: Aurora

Toni, the stupid slut, hadn't lasted more than a few seconds, and as Aurora hurried past her sprawled body, there was a voice in the back of her head screaming at her that she wasn't going last much longer.

The tall, hard, concrete walls of the atrium threw back the echoes of the combatants' wild and frantic gunfire, along with the sharp crack and hiss of fat man-stopper 9-millimitre slugs flattening themselves against unyielding surfaces. She could see black-clad bodies sprawled betwe...

Elves vs Goblins: 100-105

With a cry of hatred, Carwen drives her star-forged steel sword into the Goblin facing her, while her sister Cerys deftly runs the point of her own blade through the narrow eye-hole of another’s crude, horned helm. Carwen’s triumph is short-lived; she turns too late to confront a second foe, and takes his spear in her belly before she can raise her shield. Shocked, she gives out a choking, wide-eyed scream. Behind her, a crooked Goblin arrow flicks down from the nearby tower and takes Esy...

More Space Girls

I've been playing with some more space-girl outfits: Each of these will be featuring in a weekly render over the next few weeks and months. The ones on the right and left are pretty much straight out of the packet, but the one in the middle is more of a kitbash: She's got a re-textured suit, patches and badges from various sources, and a holster that actually needs to be the other way around, or on the opposite hip, for a right-handed draw.

Naturally, this one's my favourite, so here's ...

Choices...

The close-quarters battle in the gateway of the Goblin fort is taking up a lot of time, as my Elven Knights push their Goblin opponents back.

Throughout, I'm trying to give the sense that, while no pushover, the Goblins are inferior to the Knights, but also more numerous and less principled. In this sequence, one of the Knights is just finishing off one of the Goblins who helped kill her friend, not realising that the Goblin that fired the arrow is now hiding under the cart. As she mov...

40-43: Leaderless

By now, the battle for the little settlement is a scrappy, shambolic mess. There is nobody left to enforce cohesion, no-one to direct the Troopers' reckless courage, no-one to lead. The Officers and Senior NCOs who began the battle have all fallen in the headlong assault; they lie sprawled, some lifeless, others in the final throes of their dying anguish, and the battle continues without their stern direction.

Fortunate for the Empire that the fight has almost gone out of the defenders...

The Submarine takes shape.

I showed you all the underwater delivery bay for the Submarine, and now here it is in action!

The sub itself is a prop from the underwater sub pen set- it looks like the front end of an LA class and the back of a Trafalgar class, and by default it comes with markings which say 'USMC'. I used a 100-square grid superimposed on the texture skin to work out which part I needed to make transparent, so that the scratch-built bay fits nicely inside the hull of the sub. It looks decent enough ...
