In his Six Principles of Painting, the #1 principle is "Qi yun" which literally means "Energy or spirit resonance". In other words, the artist impresses their own feelings, sensations, mental state, and energy into their works. This will resonate in the viewer's eyes. So even if your work is technically perfect, that is less important than if you were able to imbue it with your spirit and feelings.
