Rejected RiffTrax Live 2019 slides!
Added 2019-09-20 22:40:08 +0000 UTCHello Traxians, you ladies and lords of the land of Trax. RiffTrax writer Sean Thomason here, with a little “red-band” material - that’s right, UNCENSORED REJECTED CONTENT!!! If this were a DVD case, there’d be a big red stamp on the front to let you know it might be a little naughty.
For every live show, we put together a slate of pre-show slides for your entertainment as you settle in to the theater and ponder which snacks to buy. Conor and I write the jokes, with some help this year from contributor Zach Shatzer. RiffTrax artist Jason Martin designs the backgrounds for the slides and makes them look cool.
Then, we ship the slides off to some folks who have the power to reject them from the show for content reasons. Why do we do this? Because we love the sick thrill of rejection! Or maybe because we’re required to do so by movie theaters. Either way, we always get a kick out of seeing which ones they reject, even/especially when we don’t understand the reasons.
So without further ado, here’s this year’s crop of Too-Hot-For-The-Cinema rejected slides!
From the Octaman show:

It’s kinda funny this one got rejected, since it’s really just taking a dirty scene and making it less dirty. Maybe they were upset we called her “the old woman in the deli” instead of specifically pointing out she was played by director Rob Reiner’s mother. Maybe Rob Reiner personally rejected the slide? We’ll never know for sure.

This one’s a no-brainer, some people understandably hold Carrot Top sacred and won’t tolerate any jokes about him. Honestly, we should have seen this rejection coming.

It’s probably for the best that this one wasn’t shown in theaters, just so we didn’t have to try to explain what it means to our parents.
There was only one reject from Giant Spider Invasion:

Can’t imagine what was wrong with this one. We were merely implying that one of the Muppets drives a Ford Probe in the movie. Oh, maybe the problem is that we didn’t capitalize “probe”? Some people are such sticklers for grammar and capitalization!
There weren’t any rejected slides from the Star Raiders show, guess we’ll just have to try harder next time. Hope you enjoyed this peek behind the rejection curtain!
Speaking of Conor and myself, we’ve got our very own Writer’s Picks Sale coming out soon, featuring some of our personal favorite riffs from over the years, so keep your eyes peeled!
Thanks, and keep on Traxin’, Traxians!

Should have kept the Muppets from Space slide. I almost choked on an Almond Joy laughing at that one.

2019-09-30 17:53:44 +0000 UTCI've always loved the slides, and was so sad-mad when the projectionist at the local theater forgot to start "Octoman" early enough for us to watch the slides. They've only made that one mistake, in over 10 years.

2019-09-21 02:14:27 +0000 UTCHey Scott! Sorry to hear that. This is actually an issue at the individual theater level, which is really unfortunate. The best that Fathom Events (or us, for that matter) can do right now, is to remind the theaters about the problem and ask them to monitor it. The root cause is the fact that, nowadays, movies are largely automated by computer: the show starts at a specific time, so the projection booth computer plays the program, turns down the lights, etc. But, since our shows are "live," it takes actual humans to run it, and that's usually where the breakdown occurs. But, we've heard this feedback every year, and we'll once again run this by the Fathom folks to see what we can do to try and get the trivia slides to appear in more places. Thanks for your understanding, and we hope that we'll still see you at the live shows, trivia slides or no!

2019-09-21 02:13:44 +0000 UTCI guess you could call these slides "dissed-trax". We might want to let these slide. : ) Fun seeing the rejects.

2019-09-20 23:33:14 +0000 UTCMore and more theaters seem to not be running the slides before the shows. I know that isn't under your control, but if you have the chance to pass it along to Fathom, that would be great. If that isn't something you can do, I understand. It has been more than one theater in my area that hasn't shown them for the shows this year, and I've seen other people complaining about the same thing online.
