I commissioned some artwork (NSFW)...

As is usual when developing anything, you tend to build up a little list of stuff that works for now, but you need to revisit later.

Developers (of the programming variation) call it technical debt. They build this debt to their future selves when they write some code that is good enough for now, but they know they'll need to refactor it later, to deal with stuff like more users signing up and putting heavier loads on servers, interfaces to other applications not being able to cope, etc.

It seems though, that there's an equivalent too for VN developers. Should we call it artistical debt? I don't know. But I wanted to share one example with you.

One of the artworks that could be seen on the walls in the museum was a bit of a placeholder. I wasn't entirely sure of the origins, and it needed to be replaced at some point just for that.  By chance, I had the opportunity to commission a piece of art from StrawberryBat, whom some might know as the better half of Nine Of Swords (of Mythos fame), so I asked them to create a replacement for me.

In this case, the placeholder image that had to be replaced was a raw looking piece of modern art, and I asked the artist to create their interpretation of the story of Lot after they fled from Sodom, as that fits the theme of the scene in the museum. In this case it is also interesting to note the artist has not played Light of my Life

The result can be seen here. I'm quite happy with the result, as it too is a raw interpretation, similar to the one it replaces, and one that is entirely the artists interpretation and not in any way influenced by Light of my Life, which is fitting for the setting.

And this is how it shows up in-game:

Hardware engineers are familiar with this debt - we call it the "gray box" where we put all those niggling little problems that we figure will come back to bite us sooner or later. And they do.

I know it isn't inspired by playing the actual game, yet still my mind wanders and contemplates the potential story of it being from LomL and some sort of path where you rejected all the girls inquiries and any advances, yet from their side the desires were made all the stronger, and in a drunken moment it was explored in catharsis and a shared shame.
