Behind The Spotlight Chapter 1

"Looks like everything here is done."

"Yeah, thanks for that. You always know how to find the right people."

Colin East weakly smiled when he received praise. He had been working in Showbiz for almost three years now. Yes, he could find the "right" people, people who had mediocre talent and mediocre salaries.

Being a talent agent was not that simple. So far, he only had three real clients that he was responsible for. As for the "right" people, they were just freelancers who hoped to hit it big in the industry. Colin found them while driving around Los Angeles...

The makeup artist he found was just a hairstylist who was fired from a salon.

The props master he found was a geek who was into dolls... Adult dolls.

Even the costume designer he found was an anime nerd who was deep into cosplay or some shit.

The year was 1995, and Colin didn't know how his life would turn. However, he didn't have a choice but to take a step forward. Or else he would be left behind. He didn't want that again.

For someone like him who was left behind, not taking a step is the most painful. Because it meant he remained stagnant.

Colin East was a model three years ago but he decided to change career after experiencing a heartbreak.

"Colin, you have talent."

The producer, Henry Greyson had been Colin's partner whenever Henry needed manpower for his movie project.

Henry was a producer, of course it was his job to manage the production crew. Whenever they have missing people for the jobs, Henry would contact Colin to fill up the missing positions.

Even though Colin's people were socially awkward, they got the job done, and they never made trouble.

Hollywood was also known as the city of sin. Many people in the industry used drugs, some were sex addicts, while some had disturbing fetishes.

So, hiring socially awkward workers than hiring drug addicts was far better in any situation.

In Henry's last project, one of the casting directors who was recommended to him almost raped a small-time actress.

That incident almost cost them their project. Thankfully, the small-time actress didn't press charges and settled for money instead. Still, that incident was something Henry didn't want to experience.

Thankfully, one of the talent agents he knew, Colin East, was a person he could trust. The two had been working together for three years and Colin never failed to hire the "right" people. At least the people Colin recommended never caused a problem for Henry.

"By the way, thanks for hiring my client."

"You shouldn't thank me. Wyatt had a promising future, so director Esteban hired him."

One of Colin's clients was Wyatt Bray. He was a new graduate, fresh from UCLA's Department of Film, Television, and Digital Media.

Wyatt Bray was given to Colin after the new graduates signed a contract with his agency.

For this project, Wyatt Bray was hired as Director Esteban's assistant director. For a fresh graduate, that position was hard to get.

The Assistant Director was responsible for scheduling and planning, coordinating the crew, managing the set, and many more. A heavy responsibility but also a promising one.

It means that Wyatt would experience how to manage a production crew. Wyatt's dream was to direct his own movie, so being an assistant director was a blessing for him.

Anyway, this was also a good thing for Colin. That was the reason he was thankful for Henry. At last, Colin had a promising client.

His two other clients were an actor and an actress and they failed to pass the audition for Director Esteban's project so they were currently working part-time as waiter and waitress to get by.

"Please take care of Wyatt."

Colin bid farewell after introducing the workers to Henry. Colin was not needed anymore. He was just responsible for looking for people who would fill the jobs.

He left the studio and called for a taxi. He didn't have a car, he sold it because he needed money.

The taxi brought him to the apartment complex where he lived together with his sister and mother. He paid the driver and thanked him.

Colin and his family lived in a 1 bedroom apartment.

As he walked into the complex, he realized that his surroundings had turned golden. No, his vision turned golden.

"Huh... What is happening?"

He felt nauseated. The golden vision became stronger, it was blinding.

He touched his nose and realized that his nose was bleeding. Blood was gushing out.

"... Ugh."

After that, Colin East lost consciousness and fell to the ground. Fortunately, some people saw what happened.

The people who witnessed his fainting immediately asked for help and called for an ambulance.

The golden vision dimmed until everything became dark.

[Author's Note:]

-- This is an experimental novel. Not sure if I can write it every day.

-- This novel is about a talent agent. Yes, he will have a cheat but not an OP cheat. His cheat can help him find talented individuals. Except that, he is just a simple talent agent.

-- Just to be clear, this is not a harem. I'm tired of writing harem... The MC might date a few women, but definitely not a harem.

-- To make it less stressful for me, I decided not to give it consistent word counts. But I'll make sure that every chapter has at least 700 words.

-- I read in some articles that writing new stories could help you maintain motivation while not being burned out.

-- Don't worry, I will always prioritize HWI since that's my most read novel.

-- As for RDD and TOFD, I don't feel motivated to write R-18 anymore. If I get some motivation, I might have to prioritize TOFD, because I have so many plans for this novel. I might have to read this novel so that I get reminded of some foreshadows that I set up.

-- Yes, the MC's name is a pun because I have fun doing that.

Interesting premise, looking forward to this story.
