BJ, was it an arcade game? There's an old one from back in the day called Gauntlet. You could be a wizard, elf, warrior, or valkyrie. Just a thought. As for Thorin being sick or "off", they mentioned at the very beginning of the trilogy and a couple times since, that his Grandfather had dragon sickness. Which is a greed for gold and treasure that makes you want to hoard it, and you care about it more than anything else. It drove his Grandfather crazy and it led to his death.
