Terry and the cold pizza #7

Hello sexy grizzlies!! 

I'm cumming to give you some news about Terry's development! Quite a few things have changed since last time, so I'll share the biggest changes with you.

Progress on backgrounds and assets

All the backgrounds that need to be in the prototype are finished. I can leave that aside for now.

The first client you decide to satisfy sexually.

The alley where your first battle against a monster takes place!

The kitchen of the pizzeria.

The hell where humans are taken to become sex slaves.

The character affinity system

So, this menu has probably changed the most since last time. I've brought back the affinity system I used in Robin Morningwood with the vendors: Each dateable character will have a sales window where you can buy new cards and NFTs from them, which will increase your affinity with them. You can also offer them cold pizza or play Strip Monsterz (more on that later) with them to increase your affinity for free. Once the bar is filled, a new chapter with or related to that character will be unlocked! There will be stories where Terry is not necessarily involved, as I also wanted to show scenes involving the other characters, which will allow, for example, scenes with Terry's father to be unlocked without it being controversial.

By selecting an item, you can see how much the affinity bar increases if you decide to purchase it.

The card builder

A large number of new cards have been added (more than 100), to the point that I had to make quick drawings to illustrate them while waiting to test them all. Chewy had to literally create a card creator program because it would have taken too long to code them all one by one. This software allows us to create cards and have them directly “coded” without having to do it manually for each one. This saves us a lot of time when we want to add a new card! I had to add a lot more new cards because the first prototype was very repetitive with the limited number of old cards.

The numerous NFTs and the equipment system

I removed Terry's old NFT equipment system and replaced it with NFT slots. There are several reasons for this: I don't yet know how many NFTs I want the player to be able to equip, but also because the digital “clothes” in the latest version of the menu didn't look enough like NFTs. For now, we plan to allow players to equip up to 8 NFTs, but this number may still change during development.

NFTs provide certain advantages, such as increasing your HPs, boosting the power of certain types of cards, drawing more cards, etc.

Simplification of the quests screen

This may seem like a minor detail, but previously you had to go into one of the phone menus to view all available quests. I simplified this by adding a menu to the main map where tickets will appear one below the other as they become available.

Battle and adding types to enemies (WIP)

This is a work in progress, and it's the part that took us the longest...! The card design has been revised, and so has the UI (the drawings on the cards and the filters on the enemies are temporary). Previously, the cards were divided into three categories: Attack, Power, and Skill. It's quite different now, because after numerous tests and iterations, we have quite a lot of stuff.

I added news types to the cards, as well as to the enemies. I based this on the fairly classic triptych loop found in RPGs : Fire, Plant and Water. To sum up, when you use a fire card on a plant-type enemy, the cards will be more effective. Initially, I wanted to go with the “Bottom/Top/Versatile” triptych, but a lot of things didn't work in the gameplay I wanted, so I ended up abandoning the idea. We also added visual effects to show that you have a bonus or penalty (in addition to the icons).

Directly horny

It may seem like a minor detail, but I had to change the fact that enemies have two steps: one dressed and one undressed. There are two reasons for this: In the story, monsters come from hell to earth because they are sex-crazed. So I thought it made more sense to show this directly. The second reason is that we decided that the monsters would attack with their own deck, using the same cards that Terry could use. And most of these cards show actions that you can only do when you're horny in real life. That's why I removed the clothed step from the enemies!

Strip Monsterz

Strip Lucky is back! Well, a more elaborate version, where you can boost or weaken cards depending on where you place them on the board. This game will serve both to increase your affinity with the characters and to collect Monsterz figurines.

The converting oven

Very similar to Robin Morningwood's cauldron, this furnace will allow you to transform your precious gems into even more precious gems! The only difference is that this one will be available shortly after the start of the game. These gems will mainly be used to acquire new cards and NFTs, and you can find gems by making your enemies ejaculate.

That's all for this update! Rereading it, I realize how much work Chewy and I have put into this prototype. This pre-production phase feels like it will never end, which is a bit depressing, to be honest 🥲. It reminds me a lot of the transition from Robin Morningwood's first demo to the second demo. But we're hanging in there!

As mentioned in the last update (sorry if I'm repeating myself...), Chewy is continuing to work on Terry's prototype this month, and I've gone back to working on Surviving Purge. In September, we'll both be back working on Surviving Purge to release the next version, which will include 4 new levels and 5 new parts of the story.

What I particularly appreciate in your projects as a narrative designer is how accurate and mindful you are about sensitive topics. Going through devlogs on Terry, I wondered what your plans on his father are. Here it is - nicely done as always, at the same time still providing 'the daddy' fantasy. Sounds like a minor thing, but it makes the unique and comfortable environment in your games - bravo!
