The truth about the letdown…

I don’t know if you’re like me but when I was a First time, mom when my first baby was in my stomach before I even knew how to breast-feed or anything about the challenges it would present to me I thought, “let down” meant when people let you down or feeling let down by someone. People would talk about the letdown. I had no clue what it was or what they were talking about.

When babies breast-feed babies toddlers children in general, when they breast-feed, they want to maximize milk consumption this is instilled in them instinctually.

There are things our children do that is simply instinct to get the most amount of milk out of their mothers “provided milk source” our breasts. The let down in Breastfeeding is when the milk starts to flow. In order to induce a letdown the nipple has to be stimulated for almost 2 full minutes before a letdown occurs.

In this video, you will learn about the suckling, the starting and stopping of breast-feeding, and why it happens and an example of a latch that needs to be fixed. Fixing a latch can be a bit of a challenge with a newborn, but both lips should be turned out like a ducky. The example of the latch that should be fixed is from a toddler but by the time the toddler reaches the toddling age of breast-feeding, they have it down and can still pull out the amount of milk they need, even without having 100% perfect latch.

It is extremely important to make sure that your newborn does have a perfect or next to perfect latch in order to maximize your milk output, as this is the main source, usually the only source of nutrition for your baby when they are newborns. They need the most milk they can get from you when they are not yet transitioning to solids. In order to make sure they are able to keep you filled with an ample milk supply for their little bellies the latch positioning must be proper. This ensures that they get enough stimulation to the nipple area in order to encourage “the letdown”.

Happy babies have full bellies!

Good night from our family to yours my beautiful, mommies and families!
