Tandem nursing is a great way to keep your milk supply abundant for your children. My five-year-old had a really bad ear ache and nuzzled up to me wanting to nurse. She recently weaned her self, but when she didn’t feel good today she nuzzled up to me close and asked to nurse while her sister nursed. As a loving mother who cares deeply for my children I did not deny her mothers milk as it has so many benefits for the sick child. It helps with ear infections, respiratory infections, and all sorts of germs and illnesses that children pick up from being in public places. A mother should never feel uncomfortable doing what she knows is best for her child. Whether your child is a newborn or several years old if your child wants to nurse let them nurse. It is an instinctual response as mother nature intended and a closeness that a child needs with their mother. If you are unable to nurse your child holding the child’s head to the bare chest also releases healing hormones and can help regulate body temperature and lower fevers.
My five year old woke up this afternoon after a nap and a nursing session and her ear felt much better proving to me that nurturing her by nursing her helped her to heal faster and feel better sooner.
Please always consult your doctor with what’s best for you and your family this is only my advice from my experience as a mother.
