Nipple redness…is it normal?
Added 2021-10-09 20:11:35 +0000 UTCRegardless of our skin color nipple irritation can occur anytime at any point in our breastfeeding or pumping journeys. Slight irritation and discomfort can be from comfort feeding, growth spurts, teeth catching the nipple accidentally, or tugging too hard at the nipple to extract the milk. This is normal. I’m sharing this picture with you to show you that my nipple is red and irritated but this is a normal nipple. Redness and slight discomfort are not usually something to be worried about especially if any of these reasons are why the nipple is red. When in doubt always speak to your doctor if the redness is accompanied by an itch, yellow flaky skin or severe pain it’s time to call for medical advice.
