Blabbin 'Bout Batman: The Animated Series - Holiday Knights

Merry Batsmas, everyone! And to celebrate the season, this week we're discussing the third and final B:TAS holiday episode, featuring four distinct stories of Yuletide cheer. It's got something for everyone: Harley and Ivy dominating a hypnotized Bruce Wayne for the sake of a Christmas shopping spree, Montoya and Bullock going undercover to catch juvenile shoplifters who may or may not be Clayface, a deadly New Year's Eve countdown with a Joker, and a rumination on surviving another cursed year with Commissioner Gordon. No matter your denomination, this episode has something for everyone, so find a dark room far away from your family and get ready to learn about the real spirit of the season.
Very sorry about that. I read the Tim Drake coming out story but not the interviews. I will definitely refer to Drake correctly as bisexual from now on, he’s my favorite Robin and I want to be accurate about the character. - Henry

The New Batman Adventures is such a terrible title. It just makes me think Hanna Barbera. The show is fine though. I don't think it rises to the level of BTAS, but its best episodes are definitely on par with the best of BTAS, it just didn't get enough episodes to really have a chance. Plus, I think the creative department was being worked pretty hard. And I'm with Henry on Joker. The lipless Joker is just terrible. It's so distracting for me. And his new eyes take so much away from the character.
I don't think this episode is great, but it's the best holiday episode the show did. I recently re-watched it given the Christmas season and I got to have a proud dad moment when my six year old seemed to find it ridiculous when Bullock and Montoya whip out their guns in the middle of a department store.

Bi representation really is sorely lacking in media and if a character is explicitly labeled as such, we need to respect that label

Henry you did it again gdi lmao - calling Tim gay and then saying "let's not put labels on it" when the fact that he's bi is mentioned. The creative team who did those recent Tim stories (one of whom is bi irl I believe) have SAID he's bi and there's so few bi superheroes (or good bi characters in media in general) that as a bi person this little thing really ticks me off sometimes when people are so dismissive of it 🤦

The Harley and Ivy segment is my favorite. I love the shading on Bruce when Ivy kisses him. Half visible, half silhouette. I also love the shopping spree. It’s just nice to see Harley and Ivy have a fun time.
Interesting tidbit, the layout artist and animation director for this episode (as well as "You Scratch My Back" and "The Ultimate Thrill”) is Yukio Suzuki. An animation director for Spectrum, and worked on Mask of the Phantasm. Five of the credited key animators for this episode are also former Spectrum animators who worked on Mask of the Phantasm. So this episode is like a Spectrum reunion.

I always wondered why Harley was so obsessed with Xmas considering she was Jewish 😆 I hope somebody got fired for that blunder 😝
