What A Cartoon! - The July 2021 Schedule

We hope everyone is doing their best to stay cool as the summer months warm up and we enter July. Your pals at the Talking Simpsons Network are beating the heat by recording multiple podcasts a week, and we're super ahead of schedule. And speaking of schedules, this is the first month of the updated What A Cartoon release lineup, with a standard WAC podcast out on the first and third Monday of the month, then a What A Cartoon Movie at the end of the month. And for July we have a Japanese classic with two huge guests, a chat about a stop-motion icon, and finally, our Summer of the Disney Renaissance continues with celebrating the 25th anniversary of their most French film.

And don't forget the other new detail of this new schedule: $5 and up patrons will get to hear the monthly Patreon-exclusive podcast, Talking Futurama, at a new time! We're covering season 3's "The Day the Earth Stood Stupid" on the second Monday of July!

We're starting this month big time with special guests Rebecca Sugar (creator of Steven Universe) and Ian Jones-Quartey (creator of OK K.O.! Let's Be Heroes) joining us to discuss one of their all-time favorite series, Future Boy Conan! Despite being virtually unavailable in North America, it's one of the most influential cartoons around, so we chat about the show's artistic influence on animation professionals like Rebecca and Ian, then dig deep into the fantastic second episode of the series!

As we said, Future Boy Conan has few official places to find it online, but maybe try googling "Future Boy Conan streaming" and you might find something *wink*.

Gumby - "Moon Trip" [Patreon: 7/19/21 - Free Feed: 7/26/21]

Chosen by a premium patron, we're talking about a bedrock of stop-motion animation, Gumby! The small and green plastic boy starred in decades of strange and appealing shorts, and the life of his creator Art Clokey is even more fascinating. We explore all of that in this podcast, as well as dissecting the very first (and very odd) Gumby short film, Moon Trip!

An Extended Free Preview of What A Cartoon Movie for The Hunchback of Notre Dame [Patreon: 7/26/21 - Free Feed: 8/2/21]

Our journey through this beloved era of Disney films continues with the 1996 adaptation of Victor Hugo's literary classic and the tale of Quasimodo! We'll celebrate the film's 25th anniversary by going deep into the history of how the darkest G-rated Disney movie got made, then go scene by scene through this topsy-turvy festival of fools and hellfire. Listen along before you lose a game of cards to a bird!

As expected, Disney's The Hunchback of Notre Dame is available to stream on Disney+.
