What A Cartoon! - King of the Hill - "Peggy's Headache"

It's the second episode of What A Cartoon!, and we thank all of you who signed up for the Talking Simpsons Patreon to get this installment the same day our new podcast series launches! On our sophomore outing, we cover King of the Hill, the first truly successful Fox animated sitcom to follow The Simpsons (sorry, The Critic). While some still view Mike Judge's 13-season series as a mundane exploration of rednecks, episodes like the one in question prove King of the Hill is a subtle satire of Midwestern life that digs deep into its cast of unique characters. Listen in as Bob Mackey, Henry Gilbert, and Matthew Jay discuss the episode that defines Peggy Hill, and get ready to walk away with a brand-new appreciation for this animated slice-of-life.

I missed out on most of this series because I was a weird teen and it kept getting its timeslot switched around. I finally caught up in full when it was on Netflix in 2012, and it was the biggest gut punch. I think the emotional tone of the show was just so unexpected and it was still funny to boot. I suddenly identified with Hank when I couldn't have understood his perspective before. In short, I love this series, and I look forward to more podcast episodes about it!

Suprised you guys didn't pick up on Doyle Harcavy's daughter jumping out a window being a reference to Art Linkletter. He was a white bread pop culture icon of the 60's. His daughter killed herself 1969 by jumping out of a window, and he lied and blamed it on the LSD.
