Man, I'm not condoning it AT ALL but I just wanted to put it out there because we know his story. Ketil is a complex character that has been slowly fleshed out over the course of the season, it would be a pity to just dismiss him.
His situation is extreme and unique but the feelings of betrayal and things just not going your way are very relatable.

What Ketil did this episode was horrible but you can't just denounce his whole character. He has never been allowed to have what he really wants, it's always getting taken away from him. That's his lifestory.
He found out that the one person he truly opened up to tried to escape from him, during a time where he needs her the most and that really messed him up. If Canute wasn't trying to take over his land, Ketil would have most likely only shouted at Arnheid.
And during all this, he still kept his word and let Thorfinn and Einar go even though they were involved in Arnheid's escape. We have to take that into account. Ketil is a solid dude overall in a very emotionally taxing situation.
