I'll be posting the cut-up version on YouTube around 10am PST for the usual Monday posts but I knew y'all would want early access OF COURSE 💐 LOVER WASSSS very bipolar for me. It being a 'Pop' album and myself not being a Pop lover, it was a little rough at times LOL, but it was infinitely and entirely TAYLOR, so that saved it for sure. It was very carefree and it felt like she was really breathing without apology for once in...EVER. Without a doubt these songs were truly hers and carried her stories and soul through them and she NEVER MISSES! I was half asleep editing this still so if there are any awkward cuts...pretend you never saw them...🥲

I’m very late to the party but I do remember before she dropped TTPD she did Spotify playlist I believe of all her songs and the one she called delusional had a lot of lover tracks on it. It always seemed to me that Reputation was the album that really celebrated her love with Joe, while Lover felt more like Taylor begging Joe to love her the way that she needs to be loved. There were lots of rumors back around this time that she and Joe had been on again, off again and those rumors continued throughout the rest of their relationship. While Taylor claims that 'folklore' and 'evermore' were fabricated folklore, I felt like it was clear from the jump that at best they were fabrication laced with truth and metaphor - spelling doom for her and Joe. Lover was just the first outward whispers of the storms to come.

Anyway, it usually takes me more than 1 listen through to "get" a song. Especially Taylor's. Some are instantly bangers, but it takes me a while to catch on to the lyrics and what they're telling me. I like to have that before I watch a video.

But you only realize you knew after it’s over. There’s this feeling, this instinct. But you tell yourself it’s just your fears. That it’s just a rough patch. That if you just work harder, it’ll be fine. It’s only after it’s over that you realize that voice was telling you all along it wasn’t right. That’s why we see such polar opposites in her songs in Lover and Midnights (even in pieces of Folklore and Evermore). It’s her instincts warring with her conscious voice.

2025-08-11 20:12:43 +0000 UTCyou will understand a lot more about taylor's relationship with joe after you listen to midnights and ttpd, but it really just boils down to him not wanting her to be taylor swift. she felt like she needed to make herself smaller to be palatable for him. not go out, not be seen in public, not draw attention to herself. joe also seems to suffer from a lot of issues with depression. her references to blue in a lot of songs make that apparent. if you watch long pond again, pay attention to how much jack is skeptical about joe's actual input into the songs taylor gave him writing credits on. they had a very on and off relationship, with periods where they didn't see each other much or at all (her on the rep tour or in the studio, him on various remote movie set locations), so it was a 6 year relationship that might have ended sooner if they had been in the same location a lot. she has, from a very young age, romaticized a perfect romeo who would sweep her off her feet and they would live happily ever after. for all the confidence and swagger you see onstage, she really has thought that she was just doomed to be unlucky in love. losing joe and then the matty hot mess so quickly afterward just made her sure she would never have someone who treasured her for who she is. travis is her hype man, celebrates her talent and focuses attention on her when he is with her, tells everyone how smart she is, talks about how great her homemade cinnamon rolls and homemade pop tarts are. hopefully he has shown her that she can trust in the realness of their relationship. and i didn't read all of the comments yet, but yes, she did live on cornelia street in NYC in a beautiful multi floor apartment with a rooftop deck. google taylor swift cornelia street and look at the real estate photos of the property. impressive place. when she says she left and joe called her and she turned around before the tunnel, it means she was leaving the island of manhattan and hadn't reached the tunnel before he talked her into coming back. sounds like they went out on the roof deck and talked it through. she just never seemed to be able to get rid of the anxiety that they wouldn't make it.

Remember, this is being written during the Miss Americana documentary, and politics (red/blue) are a big thing in her life. Also - I appreciate deep Swifties are determined to make every song true and reflective of a Taylor reality. Think back to Long Pond and her saying "not just autobiographical" and, of course, every deep Swiftie saying, "YOU'RE LYING!" lol. For me, there's a place for nuance and interpretation w/out needing dissect TS's life. I mean, that's what makes great art universal. I do think that knowing about professional challenges is super helpful in adding layers (the masters connect to a deeper understanding to Ricochet, the Kanye/Kim "run away" connects to "call it what you will, etc). That being said....lol.... there's no doubt Joe provided an island in the horrific storm... a safe, calm space. What a relief that must have been. And how grateful she must have felt. But, he was a bridge. Likely the person he needed for the moment and, yet, not the person she needed forever. When it was time to come back out fully into the sun, he was unable to follow.

2025-08-11 17:23:15 +0000 UTCOkay so I haven’t finished the vid yet but wanted to give some lore! Joe has always been the color blue in Taylor’s lyrics, from reputation all the way to ttpd! From what we understand of their relationship, they were initially a fling that led to an on/off relationship and Taylor fell hard, so in cruel summer it was that off again that led to it being a cruel summer. Here is LORE. Taylor wrote the song “you’re losing me” which is a vault track from midnights, which was released after their breakup became public, but Jack was MESSY and posted on his IG last year that they made the song in 2022! So here is the timeline. Tay nd Joe announced their breakup in April of 2023, but I doubt that’s when it happened. Then enters Matty Healy, which is who ttpd is 80% about which was CRAZY because we expected ttpd to be about Joe. Matty Healy is the lead singer for the 1975, and he and Taylor have had a situationship since 2014. From the songs we have, we know that Matty and taylor were talking prior to the Joe breakup, and he promised her the world, basically. Taylor and Matty started dating immediately after the breakup, literally no breath in between, and they dated publicly for like 2 months. Matty is not exactly Prince Charming, he’s a “bad boy” who voices weird opinions and has been known to have issues with drugs. During this, the crazy swifties went WILD. There was even a swiftie petition for them to break up, seriously, you can read it online it’s actually insane, which led to a few songs in ttpd about the fans. It was a very… manic? Relationship that crashed really hard and left Taylor in a bad place feeling like she just isn’t meant to find love. Fast forward a few months and Travis comments on his podcast that he went to the eras tour and made a friendship bracelet with his phone number on it to give to Taylor, but wasn’t able to meet her. Taylor got wind of it and reached out and the rest is history! All of this happened during the eras tour, and some of the performances definitely reflect how she was feeling. There are videos of Taylor crying while singing lover, she did call it what you want as a surprise song and did the angry version lol, and then you can watch her heal as the tour goes on. Anyways, there’s a huge lore drop for you!

It's totally understandable that some aren't your vibe, but as you're probably starting to see, Taylor really is her own genre. Tiny Desk includes a massive fan fave from Red, so I don't know if you want to cut that one off... I'm also psyched for you to hear the earlier albums. They give context the those written later and really show that her genre isn't country or pop or synth pop or rock or cottage core... It's storytelling, and that is evident from the very first song on the first album. Also (short rant incoming - feel free to disregard and/or roll your eyes) this whole "who's it about?" thing sometimes gets really old for me. I get that it's fun to get the tea (and it is, and it sometimes helps to place it in time and space) but while songs are definitely often inspired by relationship experiences and situations, I think paternity-testing everything can sometimes detract from their meaning, the power and universality. Sometimes they're just songs about emotions and life and human experience. Even when obviously inspired by someone, like for instance, All Too Well just to name one example, it isn't about the guy in the song (you'll definitely find out who) as much as it's about the beginning, middle, end and aftermath of a relationship and the emotional journey she takes us on through it. It matters because we've been there too (yeah, even me), not because of the gossip. Ok, rant over. 🙂 Don't come at me. Oh, and 100% no offense taken about your The Man comments. My take is, "Not every man, but always a man," on that, and yeah, I'm sure I've been that guy to some extent at various times. Even now, mansplaining Taylor in a comment section full of women who almost certainly know better 😂🤣😂🤣 Oh well. The best we ever get is human, eh? See ya next time.

Lover is a hard album for me, I hate a lot of the production, it feels like Kidz Bop, ME! was the lead single and I thought, “oh girl…… wt actual f*ck?” Lover is full of anxious attachment being masked with false cheer, like she was trying to force herself (& Joe) into the next phase of a relationship but it wasn’t working for either of them. The weird / hard / adult part of it was it seemed like they loved each other but the reality was, neither was happy in that love. On top of that, Taylor was in a trap because she’d declared that Joe was her man, the best, so honorable, etc and it feels like she blamed herself for whatever the issues were for the first half of their 6 years together. Folklore and Evermore came next and she cleverly branded those as “fictional” so she escaped having to say what she was going through with Joe but I think in hindsight, it’s clear a lot of those songs were about them and, spoiler, someone else she was fantasizing about to escape this Joe situation. The scales fell from our eyes with The Tortured Poets Department ☠️

I wouldn't mind if you sneak peaked the ErasTour surprise song version of All of the Girls, it will basically tease yourself of all of the goodness to come {and you will probably look into the camera and ask "Why the F wasn't this on the album originally?" . Perspective: You are only about 25% of the way on your Tay-journey.

Taylor said that the album explores love in its various forms: it talks about all the difficulties and fears as well as just sweet happy moments. it explores romantic love, self love, platonic love, love to people in general… but a lot of people just ignore that, unfortunately. they just want tayjoe lore, when some of the songs like “death by a thousand cuts” are not even about him. funny enough, that song was Taylor literally wondering if she could still write a good breakup song while being happy LMAO 😭 she said that on Tiny desk concert (you should watch it btw)

Tiny Desk will help a LOT when she explains what some of the songs are about, and I think similar to folklore when she talks about some of it being storytelling, and it is, but even her storytelling has a thread of at least her insecurities in it or even straight telegraphing something she knew already that we didn’t know yet so I think you’re onto something definitely with the things she might’ve already known or felt. (DBATC is one she talks about directly) Loving your journey so much! Can’t wait for the next installment! 💙💙

It’s a mini-concert (around 7-8 songs) and it is SO good — but if you don’t watch the whole thing, please at least react to Cornelia Street from that show!

It’s mostly the production on this album that isn’t my thing, more than the songs themselves, to be fair. I felt like you perhaps held back some of your true thoughts on this one, afraid they may upset people. But everything isn’t for everybody, and I definitely think it’s ok to say when something is not your cup of tea. Just want to reassure you that we are watching because we enjoy you and like to hear your honest take on all things Taylor. So I hope you don’t feel like you have to edit yourself. 💗 I definitely think you will enjoy these songs more in City Of Lover, where she performs 3 of my favorites, acoustically: Cornelia Street, Death By a Thousand Cuts, and Daylight. I actually thought all of these were good in the studio versions. But when she performs them acoustically they are just on a whole other level. Love, love, love the City of Lover versions! Also, her Tiny Desk performance is nice because she talks a bit about each song before she performs it, a la Long Pond. Thanks again for letting us share in your Taylor journey! I’m definitely enjoying being along for the ride! 🫶

Sorry English isn’t my first language and this was hard to explain 🙈 But this (sad colour representing him) combined with what we now know, you are so right about feeling a bit “off” from the vibes on the “love themed” album 🫣 For me Lover was never a favorite - it has since grown on me - but I think it was because of that anxious feeling underneath it all. I could tell something wasn’t quite right 😬 And then came folklore, evermore and midnights which all felt sooo deep, sad and personal that it didn’t make sense that she was in this “happy” relationship 🙃

Taylor admitted later on that she was in a state of delusion with her relationships during this time so never-fear when you move onto Midnights our girly goes full Rep+ with her attitude, confidence and just gets wild with exploring new production sounds...and of course the lyricism. If you can, (when you get to it) IMO try to Livestream the Eras Tour even if you have to split it into two sessions ( two consecutive Saturday nights US time) I guarantee it will blow up in the best way possible...nothing to stress over just be you and the Twitch / or Patreon Subs will skyrocket. I've seen it with 3-4 other reactors not nearly as charming as you are.

I think it encompasses the whirlwind of love in all of its facets well, the anxiety, the flirty, the jealousy, the worry, self love, and dealing with insecurties and learning to accept all those wirlwind headspaces and feelings love all put us in. I enjoy the cheesyness honestly because i feel we do everything in our power to avoid that emotion when its one the best emotions to feel because its freeing. I dont feel as you age you should lose that side of you. And i think thats what a lot of these very "poppy" songs were. Embracing the cheesy aspects of all things love and its hold on sentimentality. Despite us waiting for it to process i really wanted to share this insight because i think lover deserves the love and appreciation for what it is and not judging the woman for wanting to have fun. There is so much beauty in that. (I am not saying you are judging at all). I love lover for what it is. No expectation other putting myself into feel of the album it makes it more palatable. I will say if it was from any other artist i would not like it. Much like im not a huge country fan however taylor and country i can enjoy and rock out too. Its vivid and bright and honestly thats fitting for her very dorky personailty and i think sometimes people forget she was in a better place for the first time in a while. Even though i think the relationship with joe had a lot of anxiety in this album.. this was happy taylor. And i adore that for her! <3 thank you for enjoying taylor with us switifies and always pushing out the content. It always is a highlight of my day/night! <3
