2024-04-22 08:15:20 +0000 UTCOne of the reasons you may better appreciate the pacing of these early episodes is because of the adaptation decision they made for seasons 3 and 4. Season 1 is an adaptation of Book 1. Season 2 is an adaptation of Book 2. But season 3 and 4 are an adaptation of Book 3. The showrunners decided to split Book 3 into two seasons. So season 4 is essentially just the back half of book 3. Which may explain why you feel they are just jumping headfirst into plot. It's because this season is riding the momentum of the conclusion of the last book rather than setting up a bunch of pieces that usually dictates the early episodes of a season.
