HOIST Your Bike (Installation and Review)

Hear's another MEHDITATION video! Had to store my bike properly, so made a video about it! Hope it's not too boring!
HAVE FUN!
I have been using these in my garage for several years now. My 15 year old daughter (weakling :) ) can operate it easily. We also do not bring the bike all the way down, but leave it up a few inches and then unhook the seat. Much easier to control the bike in this fashion. Saves room in the garage, although I tend to find my bike with my head on occasion. :)

Use a stopper knot on the end, so it tightens as it gets pulled. They make two rope models, with each rope lifting one hook point, so you have smoother lifting without the weight shifting back and forth and maybe avoid hitting the wall with the tire. I have a higher weight model I use to lift an extension ladder to the ceiling of my garage. Also, on yours it looks like you could move the pulleys on the plate so you could move them closer to straight up and down without having to move the 2x10.

There is quite a story behind that song. And the hippo that was obtained as a result!

I am Franco-Ontarian natively, don't even ask me to pronounce "Hoist"π€£

I've had "I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas" stuck in my head for days. I hope you're happy!

My money was on hitting conduit or a strike plate and getting a PSA about how to not accidentally electrocute yourself with live wires when drilling into a wall or ceiling. But it's nice to have no mishaps once in a while. ;)

"Don't go scratching your wall with a magnet, it's gonna leave marks, and your wife is gonna kill you." It sounds like you speak from experience! XD

Always lift with your back so you donβt strain your knees.

Just out of curiosity, what's wrong with the bike?

As a bicycle mechanic I approve of this hoist, but not the bikes haha;)

i have something similar but there is a rail that allows the upper pullies to be moved along the length so the ropes go straight down instead of making a trapezoid or rhombus. also i was lucky with my joists they were in a convenient location. My wife has a very light road bike so I just used the ceiling hooks for that since its easy to lift.

I love the image of the graceful swinging situation! Thanks!

A few random thoughts...
Perhaps replace the ineffective hooks with carabiners. This style (https://www.niteize.com/product/S-Biner-Plastic-10.asp) could easily snap onto the vertical handle bar post, as well as the rear tire.
I'm no mechanical engineer, but it seems to me the rear pully will tend to travel twice the distance as the front pulley, since one leg of the front pulley is fixed. Think I saw something about that on a youtube video somewhere. You could test that by turning the bike backwards and seeing if the front end then travels up and down quicker than the back end.
You are not done with this project. It still needs a FULL BRIDGE RECTIFIER.

After I bent the hooks, I hang my rear wheel onto its hook, and the front to the handlebars. That would straighten your lines too. The seat is not a good attachment point.

Fun to see. Reminds me when I used a tall garage space to 'hoist' a boat to the ceiling. It was frightfully above the car while I was trying to stay married.
"Hoist by your own pitard" has an interesting meaning consistent with all the shock therapy you self-induce: Injured by the device that you intended to use to injure others. Only I, nor others I think, ever felt threatened by the remote nature of watching your 'shocking' videos. I love the physics of the shifting center of gravity. Clearly classical mechanics were no problem for you in school. Now spend a little money and get a better bike - and get out of the house more often! It will do you good.

cool bike on the wall, a good decoration for the white wall!

I've got 4 of them in my 16 foot garage ceiling. I experienced exactly the same problems and, finally, success that you did. I hoisted a bike today and the hooks behind the seat let go half way up. It swings pretty gracefully from the handlebars while you're sh**ting your pants and screaming...

I've used one of those hoists in our garage to hold a tandem bike - a much longer and heavier piece of equipment. It's held up just fine.

I kept waiting for something catastrophic to happen when the garage door opened and snagged the bike/rope arrangement. Otherwise, good work!

I've always been curious about the balance between the front and back using a lift like that. THanks for the awesome review!

Looks like trash :( Sorry not sorry :D

Well done. I have a similar system, but I am lazier than you and used and old spare12V car winch to do the work!
