What’s AC and DC (ElectroBOOM101-003)
Added 2018-08-16 04:48:12 +0000 UTC
Alternating Current and Direct Current are NOT as simple as you think, or at least that’s what some people say… But let me make it simple for you.
Also on a personal note, aren't you tired already of scope giveaways and prefer something else? Give me some ideas, maybe I can hunt a company down!
Some function generators and/or DC power supplies would be nice!
2018-08-31 21:33:18 +0000 UTC
Do you have a video on Joule effect?
2018-08-26 00:02:40 +0000 UTC
“Saleae” logic analyzer is another good choice, cause it supports Macintosh!
2018-08-20 07:47:49 +0000 UTC
i want to scope me some sinuses! :D
2018-08-19 22:45:05 +0000 UTC
A function generator

GIMME DA SCOPE

It took me a few minutes to figure out what a 'for-moolah' is.
2018-08-17 23:01:06 +0000 UTC
I need a scope.
2018-08-17 22:44:40 +0000 UTC
great video on AC. Most people just plug it in and don't know how it gets to them or how its generated. Let alone that most of the time it is sent out in three phase and they or their area may only get one wire of the three sent to them. Interesting how the grid works. Nice show of how inverters can create what works like sine wave AC but is not. As long as the device isn't sensitive to the difference then all is well. As for the scope, I'm sort of like Kevin Kulik, it would only get boring if I had one. But, A bench power supply or a veriac would be a good give away too. Thanks for the good work

An "Official ElectroBOOM EXPERIMETER'S KIT" is a great idea!

Seconding other comments that yes, I would still like a Scope giveaway from time to time! Hey, I can hope!
But yeah... a good bench supply would be another excellent and highly useful giveaway for everyone from novices to experts (we can all use another good bench supply!). An entry-level signal generator could also be handy for developing many projects at different skill levels, the sort of giveaway prize that will last someone through their whole career as an electronics enthusiast. Although I suppose that a sig-gen is generally not much use without a scope... ;)

Private Jet? Taking the piss a bit there aren't you?
What's wrong with a full-sized predator drone?
Or something simple, like a speedboat, or a jetski?

2018-08-17 16:22:04 +0000 UTC
I'd only get tired of scope giveaway once I got a scope 😂 so no GIMME DA SCOPE
2018-08-17 16:12:48 +0000 UTC
Flir! Yes a Flir should be great. Big Flir, little Flir, ios Flir. Or a bench power supply, with a Flir!

Mehdi how about a "ElectroBOOM kit" with a breadboards , resistors, capacitors, transistors and more components and it could bring a manual with some of your experiences adapted to a low danger level or you could make some interesting experiences up .This could get for the viewers with no or almost none knowledge in the field more involved. My other idea was you keep giving away things like multimeters, power supplies, scopes or even soldering stations .
2018-08-17 08:24:29 +0000 UTC
ElectroBOOM first aid kits. ;)
2018-08-17 02:09:57 +0000 UTC
Hey now, don't stop the scope give aways... If anyone is tired of them, I'll be sure to take one.. Gettin some more electchicken knowledge can never hurt.!
2018-08-17 00:05:42 +0000 UTC
Great Video Mehdi, I'm learning something new from you all the time. Oh and stick with the scopes man I haven't got one yet lol
2018-08-16 21:50:29 +0000 UTC
and btw you pronounce the φ (Phi) wrong and the ω (omega) a little funny, im from greece and i love to hear people trying to pronounce greek letters / words.

You know what's better than a scope? TWO SCOPES!
2018-08-16 19:46:57 +0000 UTC
hey, i have no scopes at all!
2018-08-16 19:46:23 +0000 UTC
I'd love a scope. I have a really ancient one. But you could also do (again) regular multimeters, lab power supply's, soldering stations.
2018-08-16 18:49:10 +0000 UTC
Keep the scopes coming! I have always wanted one for my own home use, troubleshooting, and experimentation, but it's just not something I need bad enough (but do want one!) to buy it myself. Too bad my Dad got rid of his old CRT green screen one, would have been cool to have around. Honestly while the scopes are the coolest, your giveaways are great! Some really cool tools that I think most home tinkerers really want, but aren't in the budget next to their kids college savings :)
2018-08-16 18:09:19 +0000 UTC
The scopes is the coolest thing I've ever seen given away. Tops iphone giveaways etc. It's so freakin useful. If you wanna do something else, that's cool, but I like them a lot.

I'm a newbie but would love a scope. Or power supply are my top picks Or anything to help me get started. Kit that has soldering iron (temp controlled) de-soldering, supplies for learning electronics like LEDs, capacitors, transistors, resistors, wires, breadboards.
2018-08-16 17:18:08 +0000 UTC
I could still use a scope!
It would also be fun to have a power supply, a nice soldering set, or a private jet.

The scopes give people like me who will never get their hands on one a chance to see what really is going on and is a great learning and troubleshooting tool. I think you should keep the scopes as long as keysight wants to play along and as long as you are happy with your internal agreement.

I love watching the clock in the background, see how long things take...

2018-08-16 13:47:24 +0000 UTC
scopes are the best!!!
2018-08-16 13:35:09 +0000 UTC
I really would like that too! That's what I'm trying to do. I want to use those DPS3012 modules but can't find a way to do a proper power supply that can give ~35V and ~15A (I would like to have an enclosure with two of those !)
2018-08-16 13:15:25 +0000 UTC
I'm currently looking at a Lab bench power supply... so... :D
2018-08-16 13:12:47 +0000 UTC
Well I still don´t have a scope so *wink wink* I might get some ideas when its here.
2018-08-16 11:11:22 +0000 UTC
Ughhh I'm late for the video
2018-08-16 10:56:07 +0000 UTC
Awesome video , very informative, I enjoy the way you break the subject matter down.
2018-08-16 09:59:29 +0000 UTC
I like the idea of winning a scope. My old one is valve/tube driven an is on its last legs 🙃
2018-08-16 09:55:13 +0000 UTC
Well I am still hoping to win a scope, so no I am not tired of them yet. Gimmie that scope!! I need it! A spectrum analyzier does sound appealing as well though..
2018-08-16 08:32:24 +0000 UTC
No explosions and only one short-circuit? Your're getting soft!Nice video!
2018-08-16 08:18:28 +0000 UTC
I'll get bored of the scope giveaways when I get one. Not one second before :D
2018-08-16 07:53:04 +0000 UTC
Well my 'proper' one is limited to 5a at the moment so when I get anywhere near that the voltage obviously drops right down so at the moment I've got a bit of a crude set up for anything higher.........

What happens when different AC lines of different phases (the value of "phi") are connected together?

Hello Mehdi, can you make a video about making a DIY high current SMPS, for example a 30V 20Amps. Or is it cheaper to just buy one?
2018-08-16 07:26:57 +0000 UTC
how may amps are we talking about here?
ElectroBOOM [Mehdi Sadaghdar]
2018-08-16 07:08:38 +0000 UTC
A good higher amp power supply is something I've always wanted rather than a DIY one

2018-08-16 06:36:40 +0000 UTC
I like trying to win a scope but what about one of those Tesla coils kits you made in an earlier video or a 3D printer
Jonny
2018-08-16 06:17:43 +0000 UTC
I hear Form-Mullah I thought Mehdi was getting all religious on us for a minute. LOL

It’s funny because 16 years ago I pronounced Omega the exact same way in my class as a teaching assistant and the class erupted in laughter! I took it very personally at the time but now it is a funny memory. That’s how Farsi speaking people pronounce Omega Steve.
Bahram Dahi
2018-08-16 05:56:17 +0000 UTC
Am I the only one that hears "Omega" as "Oh-my-God"?
2018-08-16 05:31:36 +0000 UTC
Maybe an SLA or SLS 3D printer?
Kommi
2018-08-16 05:30:01 +0000 UTC
I only have one of these cheap DSO-scopes .. so yeah still waiting out for a 'real' one ;)
dreamer
2018-08-16 05:26:19 +0000 UTC
More scopes, please!
2018-08-16 05:26:16 +0000 UTC
ElectroBOOM, for your ElectroBOOM101, you should make a video about power factor and the 3 types of power in AC (active, reactive and apparent).
2018-08-16 05:17:19 +0000 UTC
4-moo-lahs! Love it!
2018-08-16 05:08:20 +0000 UTC
How about more stuff to plug into cell phones and 3D printing related stuff? Those are broad recommendations, so they leave many many possibilities open. Frankly I'm biased to 3D printing components. But that's just me.... And all my draw chances entered each time.... 😅
2018-08-16 05:06:58 +0000 UTC
EMF Detector giveaways?
2018-08-16 05:06:44 +0000 UTC
This is great! Thank you!
2018-08-16 05:00:25 +0000 UTC
No more scope's I am still trying to win one for my Son and I. Lol we both have been trying. Maybe you can get fluke meters or something to give away that would be nice too. My son and I have been making some cool things with esp8266. Love your videos just can't get enough. Thanks for educating us and keeping us entertained. You must be a great father to have around. I bet you come up with some real Shockers for your kids. Be safe and thank you.
