My Brob GF Ch 24: The Visit To Brobdingnagian Lands!
Added 2024-12-20 00:38:05 +0000 UTCThe hum of my hover car, the Nimbus 4000, filled the silence as I approached the Brob Void checkpoint. I adjusted my hands on the wheel, though "wheel" was a stretch—it was more of a semi-circle console glowing with soft blue lights. The Void loomed ahead like a shimmering green curtain suspended in mid-air, pulsating faintly as if alive.
I couldn't help but feel a pang of anxiety. This was it. Beyond that veil was Brobdingnag—a land where everything, from the smallest pebble to the largest skyscraper, would make me feel like an ant at a picnic.
"Calm down, Ethan," I muttered to myself. "You've been through worse. Way worse. Like nearly getting stomped on last week. This is just... a vacation. A terrifying, giant-filled vacation."
Normally, people traveled between dimensions via planes equipped to handle the transition. The Veils—natural dimensional barriers—were too volatile to cross without a stabilized portal. But here, near some Brobdingnagian cities, tech-savvy Lilliputians had figured out a shortcut: temporary, smaller portals that connected nearby checkpoints directly to Brob territory. Convenient? Yes. Stress-free? Absolutely not.
Ahead of me, a line of hover cars stretched toward a floating checkpoint platform that hung in the air like some futuristic toll booth. Blue and green lights flickered along its edges, and holographic signs directed traffic into neatly organized rows. I sighed, leaning back in my seat as the line crawled forward at a snail's pace.
"Who knew interdimensional travel involved so much waiting?" I grumbled, reaching for my thermos. Cold coffee. Great.
After what felt like an eternity—probably just two hours—I finally reached the checkpoint. A large holographic arrow pointed me toward a parking bay on the left. I guided the Nimbus in, letting it hover gently into place. The dashboard chimed as the car locked itself into the magnetic field.
I sat there for a moment, tapping my fingers on the console. "Alright, Ethan. Time to act like a professional. You're just a guy visiting... a friend. No big deal."
The sound of boots on the metal platform caught my attention. A Lilliputian inspector approached my car, clipboard in hand and a stern look on her face. Her uniform was crisp, and her name tag read Officer J. Patel.
I rolled down the window, giving her my best "I'm-totally-not-nervous" smile.
"Purpose of your visit?" she asked, voice all business.
"Visiting a friend," I said, trying to keep it casual.
"Duration of your stay?"
"Uh, just a day or two."
"Do you have any goods, technology, or prohibited materials in your possession?"
"Nope. Just me, my car, and a crippling fear of giant shoes."
Her eyebrow twitched, but she didn't laugh. Tough crowd.
"Are you aware of the risks involved in traveling to Brobdingnag?"
"Yes," I said, a little too quickly. "Totally aware. Very prepared."
She gave me a long, scrutinizing look before making a few notes on her clipboard. "Alright, Mr. Flynn. You're cleared to proceed. When you exit the portal, please adhere to all Brobdingnagian safety regulations. Have a safe trip."
I nodded, giving her a small wave as she stepped away. "Thanks, Officer Patel."
The hover car released from the magnetic lock, and I guided it forward toward the portal. The green veil loomed larger now, flickering like sunlight on water. It was mesmerizing and terrifying all at once.
"Okay, here we go," I muttered, gripping the controls. As I approached the portal, the car's onboard AI chimed: "Dimensional threshold detected. Initiating stabilization field."
The Nimbus shuddered slightly as the field activated, surrounding the car in a faint blue glow. The science behind it was simple—well, simple if you had a PhD in quantum mechanics. Essentially, the stabilization field ensured that my molecules didn't get scrambled like eggs during the transition. A minor detail, but one I was grateful for.
The green veil swallowed me whole. For a moment, there was nothing but a rush of light and sound, like being caught in a wind tunnel filled with kaleidoscopic colors. Then, just as quickly as it began, it was over.
I emerged on the other side, and my breath caught in my throat.
The Brob city of Colossas stretched out before me, its skyline so massive it made every Gulliverian city I'd ever seen look like a child's toy set. Towering skyscrapers gleamed in the sunlight, their tops disappearing into the clouds. The roads were wide enough to fit entire Lilliputian towns, and Brobs moved through the streets like living mountains, their footsteps sending faint tremors through the ground.
"Welcome to Colossas," the AI announced cheerfully.
"Yeah," I said, my voice barely a whisper. "Thanks."
Swallowing hard, I guided the Nimbus onto the designated path for Lilliputian vehicles. It felt surreal, being here. Terrifying, yes, but also... kind of incredible.
As I navigated toward Harper's neighborhood, I couldn't help but wonder what I'd gotten myself into. Harper had invited me here, sure, but was I really ready for this?
"Too late to turn back now," I muttered, gripping the controls tighter.
All I could do was hope that this visit wouldn't end with me getting stepped on. Or worse—embarrassing myself in front of Harper. Again.
The glowing path stretched out before me, a soft blue ribbon of light suspended in the air, guiding my Nimbus 4000 through the towering landscape of Colossas. The path adjusted its altitude subtly, sometimes rising, sometimes dipping, making sure I stayed at the "safe" height for Lilliputian hover traffic. It was surreal—floating along at what felt like a hundred stories high, but knowing I was still barely mid-level compared to the city around me.
I checked the directions Harper had sent me earlier, the holographic map displaying a blinking green dot labeled "Harper's Place". The scale of the map was ridiculous; the dot looked like it covered miles, but that was just Brob life for you.
"How do people even find anything here?" I muttered to myself as I dodged around a slower hover car. "It's like navigating a country, not a city."
The further I went, the fewer cars there were, until eventually, it was just me on the path. I passed towering buildings made of materials I couldn't even name, their surfaces gleaming in the late afternoon sun. The sounds of Colossas faded the closer I got to Harper's neighborhood—no more distant rumbles of Brobs moving about or the occasional booming announcement from their massive advertisements. Just the soft hum of my car and the faint crackle of the energy field around me.
Finally, the map beeped, and I saw it ahead—a massive door, easily the size of a Lilliputian skyscraper, set into a building that might as well have been a cliff face. The glowing path led straight to a small hovering platform in front of the door. I guided the Nimbus over and parked, the car gently locking into place with a soft chime.
"Okay," I said, taking a deep breath and staring up at the colossal door. "Here goes nothing."
I reached for my communicator, pulling up Harper's number. The call connected almost immediately, her face popping up on the holographic screen. Even as a miniature image, her features were striking.
"Hey," I said, trying to sound casual. "I'm here. At your... door."
Harper's lips quirked into a small smile. "I'll be right there. Don't move."
Like I had anywhere to go.
The call ended, and I sat there, staring up at the door. It looked like it had been carved out of a mountain, the surface textured and weathered. The hinges alone were massive, each one as thick as a Lilliputian highway.
A low rumble broke through the air, and then the door began to move. It swung open with a loud screeching sound, the kind that made you instinctively wince. My hands gripped the controls of the Nimbus out of sheer reflex as the sheer scale of everything hit me again.
And then she appeared.
Harper stepped into view, her frame filling the doorway like a living mountain range, just as I remembered. Her hair was loose today, tumbling over her shoulders in dark waves, and she wore a casual outfit—an oversized sweater that still managed to hug her form and simple leggings that stretched down her impossibly long legs.
"Ethan," she said, her voice a warm rumble that seemed to vibrate through the air around me. Her sharp green eyes scanned the tiny platform where I hovered, finally locking onto me.
"Harper," I said, leaning out the window of my car and giving her a small smile. "I'm here."
She tilted her head slightly, her lips curling into an amused smirk. "Yeah, I can see that. You look... tiny."
"Gee, thanks," I muttered, though I couldn't help but grin.
"Come on," she said, stepping fully into view and crouching down, her face drawing closer to my level. The ground shook faintly with the motion, but I held steady.
Up close, the sheer scale of her hit me all over again. Her eyes were like shimmering pools, each blink a deliberate, slow movement. Her skin was smooth and warm-toned, her freckles dotting her cheeks like miniature constellations. She reached out, her hand resting gently on the edge of the platform.
"Park the car and step out," she said softly. "I'll take you the rest of the way in."
"Right," I said, quickly disengaging the Nimbus and stepping onto the platform. The transition from the stability of the hover car to the hard surface felt surreal, especially with Harper's hand right there, palm open and waiting.
I looked up at her again, swallowing my nerves. "I've gotta say, this is... a lot. Even for me."
Her laugh was warm and surprisingly gentle. "You'll get used to it. Come on, hop on."
I climbed into her palm, the surface of her skin warm and soft, though slightly textured like the smoothest leather. As her fingers curled slightly around me for security, I couldn't help but feel like I'd just stepped onto another planet.
"Comfortable?" she asked, her voice teasing.
"Define comfortable," I shot back, though I was smiling.
She rolled her eyes and stood to her full height, the motion making my stomach do a little flip. As she carried me inside, I realized that, for better or worse, I was officially in Harper's world now.
