Devour Vol 2 Ch 1: The Challenge!
Added 2024-11-28 17:16:45 +0000 UTCIn the depths of space, far from any other world, a green planet floated alone, cradled by the cold, silent darkness. Across its surface, untouched lands stretched endlessly under the soft, alien light. At its center, a man sat cross-legged on a grassy plateau, his skin the same green as the planet around him. He wore robes as white as clouds, and his eyes were closed, his face calm and still, lost in deep concentration. All around him, a glowing silver energy pulsed, crackling faintly as if alive, its soft glow lighting up the ground where he sat.

Then, the light began to change. Shadows spilled over the land, casting a dull shade on the vibrant green below. Slowly, the man's eyes opened. He looked up at the sky, his gaze sharp and serious. The air grew heavy, and there, above him, stretched an endless expanse of skin, the color of soft earth. Massive lips, curved in a faint, barely recognizable smile, hovered just beyond the clouds. The sight was incomprehensible, the scale beyond what he could grasp.
"It is as I have envisioned," the man murmured, his voice laced with anger and sadness. He slowly rose to his full height, his gaze never leaving the endless lips in the sky. "The end has come."

Above the planet, outside its atmosphere, she hovered, a conqueror of worlds, a devourer of galaxies. Her body was powerful, toned and strong, with long brown hair flowing around her in the vastness of space. She looked down at the green planet with a smile on her lips, her eyes gleaming with cruel delight. Naked and unbound by anything, she took in the world below her as if it were nothing more than a toy.

"You have one chance," she said, her smile widening slightly. Her voice rolled across the sky, filling every corner of the green world below. "One chance only." She pointed a single finger down at the planet. "Entertain me."
Then, with deliberate care, she lowered her finger and pressed it against the planet's surface. Instantly, the crust gave way, crumbling beneath her fingertip as if it were no more than sand. She dragged her finger slowly, leaving a trail of broken ground, mountains collapsing and forests vanishing in her wake. She felt the surface split easily, the faint resistance crumbling beneath her touch. With every movement, she knew she was causing only destruction, and the knowledge filled her with a dark satisfaction.

Bringing her finger back to her face, she examined the fine dust clinging to her print. Her smile grew as she opened her mouth wide, and with one slow, deliberate motion, she licked the dust off her finger. The faint grit dissolved on her tongue, and she swallowed, her satisfaction gleaming in her eyes as she looked back down at the little green world below.
In the cold emptiness of space, the Devourer hovered above the green planet, her eyes closed in deep concentration. From her forehead, a small ball of white light began to emerge, glowing with a fierce, otherworldly brightness. It was as large as a moon, radiating energy that seemed to pulse with her heartbeat. Slowly, the light detached from her, floating free and descending toward the planet below.
On the planet's surface, the man stood alone amid a wasteland of broken land and shattered life. His fists were clenched, his knuckles white as he stared at the horrific trail of destruction left by her touch. Once, this land had thrived with life and energy. Now, a massive, desolate canyon snaked across the horizon, so wide he could barely see the other side. Jagged lines cut deep into the earth, ridges and valleys that traced the imprint of her fingerprint, a colossal scar marking where her finger had torn through his world.

He closed his eyes and reached out with his mind, hoping to sense the lives of his people. But all he found was silence—a void where voices had once been, filled only with the fading echoes of screams, cries that had died as quickly as they had come. His heart sank, anger burning in his chest as he took in the wreckage, the emptiness left by her careless touch.
Then, a strange light began to pierce the clouds above, growing brighter and brighter until the entire sky was blinding white. He shielded his eyes, squinting upward. "What...?" he muttered, struggling to keep his gaze on the sky as the light flooded the land.
And then, as quickly as it had come, the light vanished, leaving only a dark silhouette, a massive form descending from the heavens. The man's eyes widened as realization struck him, and dread sank into his stomach like a stone. "Oh no," he whispered, as he saw the shape of the white orb falling toward him.
BOOM!
The impact was deafening, sending a wave of raw force across the landscape. The ground beneath his feet trembled violently, throwing him off balance as a wall of dust and rock rushed toward him. The wind whipped at him like a battering ram, hurling massive boulders across the land. The sky itself seemed to shatter, and he struggled to stay upright, his vision blurred by the chaos around him. Everything around him—the trees, the rocks, the very air—was swept away in the devastation, swallowed up by the force of her arrival.
When the dust finally settled, he looked up, eyes widening at what stood before him. Massive feet, as wide as mountains, pressed down on what had once been a bustling city. The ground was crushed beneath her toes, each one towering like a peak, erasing the city's existence beneath the weight of her foot. Further up, impossibly high, two legs stretched upward like enormous pillars, rising far into the clouds, which shrouded her upper body in a hazy mist.

"Monster..." he breathed, the word leaving his lips in a whisper. He couldn't comprehend the scale of the being towering above him, her body filling his entire horizon, an unstoppable force of destruction.
"Monster?" he heard a feminine voice echo in his mind, her tone carrying a note of amusement. "Yes, you may have a point." Her voice was smooth but powerful, each word reverberating in his head with an undeniable presence.
The man shouted, startled, looking around in confusion. "Who...? Who are you?" he demanded.
The voice laughed softly. "The monster standing before you, as you say." He felt the weight of her gaze, though he could not see her eyes, hidden high above in the clouds.
He looked up, heart pounding. "What?"
"My name is Zephora," the voice introduced itself, rich with pride. "A Devourer of worlds, A Conqueror of stars, A born Warrior." Her words were calm but chilling, and they rang through his mind with absolute authority. "And I have an offer for you," she continued, a slight smile in her tone. "I know you are the strongest being on this little planet of yours. I would like to give you... an opportunity."

The man narrowed his eyes, barely daring to believe. "What do you want?"
"To fight you," she replied simply, her tone eager, like a challenge.
He blinked, unable to process the words. "Huh?"
