Psylocke Vol2 Ch 1: Journey Through The Veil, Entering Brobdingnag!

You know, every time I closed my eyes and dared to dream, I would see him standing there in a white void that seemed endless and unknowable. This man had wild hair that stood upright and wore a black coat that fell all the way to his feet.

I would be a child, looking up at this stranger whose face was hidden from me. For some reason, I felt calm, as if this person was the most trustworthy in the world.

The man would turn around and bend down, placing his hands on my shoulders. His eyes were obscured by his hair as he smiled at me.

His mouth would move as he said something I couldn't hear. I would look up at him, my eyes wide, refusing to blink, as a single tear fell from my right eye.

"Who are you?"

I opened my eyes slowly and looked around. My body felt stiff as it always did when I slept in uncomfortable positions.

"Did you have a good sleep?"

I looked up, hearing a quiet yet powerful familiar voice. I smiled as I saw the face of my girlfriend Grace looking down at me with a smile as I sat on her lap.

"Yeah..." I said, rubbing my eyes, trying to cast away the tiredness I felt. "I had a pretty good rest."

"Doesn't look like it," Grace said, her keen eyes noticing my unrest.

"What were you dreaming about?" Grace asked.

I leaned up against her lower stomach as she cupped her hands around me, always careful when handling me.

"That's a good question," I said with a small laugh. "It's too bad I don't really remember." I closed my eyes, trying to picture the scene in my mind. "I don't remember anything at all."

"Uh huh..." Grace said, clearly seeing through my lie. She was always good at that.

"So, um, I wouldn't suppose we're there yet?" I asked, trying to change the subject.

"No, I'm afraid we're still on the plane," Grace said, taking the bait.

I still couldn't believe I was on a plane headed toward Brobdingnag, a place filled with people who could destroy a Lilliputian mountain range with a single finger. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't scared for my life, but apparently, all of this was necessary to continue my training.

I just hoped that this was the right call. I had never left Lilliput before, never been so far away from home. All this just to join a mysterious team called Psylocke—yeah, I know, crazy name. But at least Grace was coming with me.

"Huh?" I said as Grace's hands hovered around me, lifting me from her lap and up to the window.

"I think you might want to see this," Grace said with a smile, looking out the window as well.

It was the first time I had seen it. "The veil," I said, gazing out at the night sky lit up by what seemed to be a glowing blue portal made of electrified fog and steam.

"I had only read about it in books and documentaries," I said with a small smile, staring at the blue veil the plane was flying toward.

Legend had it that Gulliver, the first of us to explore the three worlds, came across the veil while sailing through the Velscaperon oceans. He described it as a thick fog that could barely be seen through. On the other side, he found a different world—my world, the world of Lilliput. Through extensive study, Gulliver discovered that this veil didn't just exist in Gulliverian and Lilliput but also in Brobdingnag. And after even more extensive study hundreds of years later, we found a way to travel between these lands with much greater ease, creating artificial portals that took the form of small blue gates.

"This is amazing," I said, smiling and suppressing a laugh.

"Yeah, it really is," Grace said from behind.

I couldn't tear my eyes away from the beauty of the veil. It was too bad that I was forced to as Grace brought me down toward her face.

"Look, Tristan..." Grace said, her voice serious, catching my attention immediately. "You have to promise me that you will stay close to me at all times. Don't even leave my sight, okay?" Her eyes were filled with worry.

"Well, that shouldn't be a problem, seeing as how I would probably immediately die if I were to separate from you," I said with a laugh.

Grace didn't laugh back. "Tristan, I'm serious," she said, bringing her face closer until her nose touched my chest.

I held onto her nose, hugging and kissing it. "Okay," I said with a smile. "I won't leave your sight."

I couldn't see it, but I was sure Grace was smiling. She giggled as I kissed her nose continuously.

"Alright, alright, you two love each other, we all get it."

Grace carried me away from her face as we both turned to see Breonia Saxon sitting back in her chair, her eyes closed as she slept.

"You two need to get a room," she said, opening one eye.

Suddenly, the plane began to vibrate as it approached the glowing blue portal of the veil, causing me to feel an uneasy churning in my stomach. I looked up at Grace, seeking an answer.

"Ugh, I don't feel so good," I muttered, trying my best not to throw up.

Grace's expression softened with understanding. "That's normal. People who go through the veil for the first time often get sick, sometimes even vomit. Just try to relax. I've got you," she said, holding me close to her chest.

The vibrating intensified, and I felt as if I were being pulled in every direction at once. I tried to steady my breathing, focusing on the sound of Grace's heartbeat. It was the only thing that kept me grounded and stopped me from going insane.

After several nauseating minutes, the vibrations began to subside, which was good, because I didn't think I was going to last another minute.

It took a while, but my queasiness ended. Peeking out between Grace's fingers, I could tell that the veil was behind us now, and the sky outside was a brilliant, clear black.

"You did great," Grace soothed, gently kissing the top of my head with her lips that almost consumed my entire head. "We'll be landing soon."

I nodded as I looked out at a whole entirely different, alien sky.

Several hours later, the plane's descent was announced, and I couldn't contain my excitement—this long journey was finally over.

The wheels touched down smoothly, and the passengers began to disembark. Grace and Breonia carefully navigated through the crowded aisle, Grace keeping me safely in the chest pocket of her jacket as she gathered our stuff.

As we stepped off the plane, I was immediately overwhelmed by the sheer scale of everything around me. The airport was filled with towering structures and people the size of a dozen mountains. I gulped nervously, pressing closer to Grace. She gave me a reassuring smile.

"Welcome to Brobdingnag, Tristan."
