Epic The Musical "The Wisdom Saga" FULL Reaction!

I LOVE TELEMACHUS SO MUCH! Also Athena completely did a 180 and became one of my favorite characters after this saga!

The songs I listened to in these animatics are Legendary, Little Wolf, We’ll Be Fine, Love in Paradise, and God Games.

Epic The Musical "The Wisdom Saga" FULL Reaction!

Comments

She felt guilty for basically abandoning odysseus

August_Angel_Official

I wish you had watched the God Games by gigi

Outcast Spartan

My only gripe with this saga is that Jorge made Athena upset for doing nothing wrong, it boils my blood. She has absolutely nothing to feel guilty for.

Outcast Spartan

I completely forgot Brandon McInnis was part of epic as Apollo

ItsSimmeRin

You might know this already, but just in case: It's been 20 years in total since Odysseus left Ithaca, the 7 years are a timeskip between the end of the Thunder Saga and the start of the Wisdom Saga; in the Thunder Saga it's been 12-13 years since Odysseus left, 7 years later the Wisdom Saga happens when it's been around 20 years, Odysseus has been missing for those 7 years and by this point in the Wisdom Saga is when Athena is trying to find him. Also, when Athena and Odysseus went their separate ways in the Cyclops Saga it was 10 years after he left Ithaca, 10 years after that is when the Wisdom Saga happens.

Álex Martínez

So basically, the SA doesn't happen in the musical but it did in the original, it was only harassment here(which is obviously also bad).

Shay

I think Athena's guilt was more about Ody's life as a whole; like she feels bad for trying to make him enjoy killing, bury his guilt, and leading him down the path of war in the first place. She is doing for Telemacus what she wishes she did for Ody, teaching him to fight and defend himself rather than trying to mold him into what she wants. Edit: Ares agreeing with what you've said isn't even actually that bad, he was one of the only male Greek gods who often sided with women when they were SA-ed or wronged by men (he was often bastardized and/or demonized by other gods inside his own stories and by greek men because of that)

Shay

So I gotta out myself after reading the comments, so please read all the way through! 🙇🏻‍♀️ I 100% am/was a Calypso fan. In part because I did NOT think THERE WAS SA HAPPENING. In my listening to it I had thought it was her holding him captive, yes, but not forcing him into anything! So without the SA, I could see both sides in terms of (pro-Calypso) isolation making someone make terrible decisions and being able to have sympathy for them because of their circumstances, and (anti-Calypso) that she's being a petulant child (as the gods are prone to doing) and treating him as a pet/plaything rather than an actual person. So that being said, now that I have more information, I am very upset about this turn of events and have only professional sympathy (I work in mental health lol) for her now 😅

15:15 ..... Oooohoh, if you now you now

Mephiles Blackstone

yeah and in the og odyssey there was no trial she had to go through to convince Zeus, she literally just asked him to let Odysseus go and he agreed BECAUSE she's his fav daughter

Aiste Laurynaityte

Forgive me if I'm wrong but, i dont believe this is part of the original mythology. This was written by Rick Riordan in the POJ series to make Calypso more kid-friendly.

Lara M.

Others commented who are the gods and some data about Calypso... I'll add that Athena is Zeus' favorite daughter because she's just his daughter, no other (or he sees as such). In reality, Zeus had another wife before Hera, a goddess called Metis, a titan goddess. But the same Zeus vanquished his father, he feared his children could do the same to him, so he ate Metis while she was pregnant. She gave birth inside Zeus... and Zeus felt a terrible headache, so much he poped his own head opened and Athena was born, fully formed and adult. For Zeus is just his daughter, born just from himself, so he adores her. Also, every god here accept to free Ody over an argument that appeal to them personaly or the thing they represent... except Hera, that she accepts because she's tired of Zeus multiple, current and serial infidelities and a man that can keep it in his pants for her is ok. God games is my favorite song, from that 'Father, God-king...' of Athena entering Olympus to the different gods, it's a thing of beauty.

Vengerin

Awww Lena so cute!! Growing baby! Yeah I get the double standard feeling when it comes to Calypso, like you said you wouldn't like it if it was a man doing the same thing yet it's fine with Calypso? yeah double standard

Alexis Cardillo

YES! That intro was adorable!🐶🥰 I love the new pupper so much! And it seems your other dog does too. She looks so sweet. I hope Leena is with you all for a long time and lives the best life.

WyvernKing99

Yes! Telemachus is best boy standing up for his mom. And his friendship with Athena is so good. Also, Hera immediately agreeing after Athena said "He never cheated on his wife." was a hilarious bit. She's the goddess of marriage and family, and Zues' wife. And if you know half of Zeus' "escapades" you know Hera was more than happy to spite him and support Ody after that.

WyvernKing99

I agree 100% with you about Calypso. The defense most people give surrounds her other myth, cursed to never leave the island because her father, Atlas and the other titans warred with the gods, and sense it's hidden, she's desperate for human contact. Yeah that sucks, but it's no excuse to SA Odysseus for 7 years.

WyvernKing99

The tragic part of Calypso in her "No one can come and go" is that she also cannot leave the island due to punishment or smth, and because the island is hidden, no one really comes to it. Girl is fucking STARVED for human contact. Doesn't justify what she did (Holding Ody captive) but it does explain it. Long term isolation will fuck a person up, and she's been isolated since when the Olympian gods took over ((Editing this bit because I did more research instead of sleeping like I should be doing: So her being trapped on the island isn't explicitly from Homers Odyssey, at least not in any surviving version we have, but it also doesn't say she's free to leave if she wished to. The idea of her being trapped on that island isn't a modern adaption, it's been a theme regarding her for a long time, long before PJO even. There is unfortunately no definitive date for where and when the consensus began to lean towards Calypso being a prisoner too, whether it originated from an obscure and lost myth in ancient Greece or some schmuck in the 1800s. Which is honestly kinda fascinating to me.)) As for the God Game. Among the Gods; Ares, Aphrodite, and Apollo had allied with the Trojans during the war, giving them added incentive to oppose Odysseus' return. Ares: God of War (in it's true, brutal sense) and Courage. Son of Hera and Zeus, brother to Hephaestus (God of craft) and half-brother to Athena (Goddess of War Strategy) and Apollo (The God of a fuck ton of stuff). Was Aphrodite's lover. Father to the Amazons. As well as father (With Aphrodite) of Deimos (God of Fear), Phobos (God of Panic), and Harmonia (Goddess of Harmony). He gets called a feminist icon in modern days a lot. But really, as cool as the modern interpretation is, his protection of women tends to really only extend to his own children. He's a cool God, gets a lot of flack and also villainized a lot because his domain is War. Aphrodite: Goddess of Sex, Love, Beauty, etc. etc. Her birth is kinda weird, but not the weirdest for Greeks. Born from the sea foam that was created by Uranus/Ouranos' dick when his son Kronos (Zeus father) castrated and overthrew him. She is married to Hephaestus, has a longstanding famous affair with Ares, is the mother of Eros (God of Love/Lust) and a lot of other love and sex themed spirts / gods. She gave Helen to Paris (Despite Helen already being married and the queen of Sparta at the time) thus kickstarting the Trojan War. Apollo: God of Archery, Prophecy, Music, Medicine, Art, and enlightenment / sunlight. Drives the Sun Chariot (Not to be confused with Helios, the God of the Sun). Twin brother to Artemis (Goddess of Hunt, Childbirth, the Moon Chariot, and one of the three Goddesses of Eternal Maidenhood / Virgin Goddesses). Half-Brother to Ares, Athena, and Hephaestus. Well known for having a lot of tragic romances (One of his girlfriends turned into a tree, one of the winds gods killed his boyfriend, etc. etc.) Sided with the Trojans as he was one of their patron gods. Hephaestus: God of Craftmanship and Blacksmith. Son of Hera and Zeus. Born disfigured, was tossed off Olympus as a baby after being born, further disfiguring him. Was raised by the sea nymph Thetis (Achilles mother) before rejoining the Olympians and being given Aphrodite as a wife (Not her choice. He kind of trapped Hera in a golden throne and the most beautiful goddess as his wife was one of the ways they got him to release their queen). constantly being cucked by his brother Ares who has a longstanding affair with Aphrodite. Hera: Queen of the Gods, Protector of Women (Unless they were one of Zeus' lovers, then she's out for your and your childrens blood. It's kind of a hypocritical mess) Goddess of Marriage. Sister-Wife of Zeus. Mother of Ares and Hephaestus. Most well known for serving as an antagonist for Zeus' bastard children, punishing them and their mother for Zeus' affairs since she cant punish Zeus (Which really is a product of how fucking misogynistic ancient Greece was by having the Queen of Gods blame the women for her own husbands infidelity, regardless of if the women even knew it was their own husbands of a disguised Zeus they were bumping uglies with). Her immediate willingness to let Ody go because he's always been faithful is fitting with her role as the Marriage god.

R. I. P. Athena you redeemed your self in the end...

PinkPonytail _Girl

Ares (god of war) and Aphrodite (goddess of love and fertility) were indeed in a long standing affair. She loved his good looks, his masculinity and passion. My reaction hearing this: Good graces, the "hot girls like bad boys" trope is pretty damn ancient!

Chloe Small

In regards to the suitors and why they are just hanging out and haven’t been kicked out yet, I’d recommend again looking a bit into the Ancient Greek laws of Xenia. Although in most iterations of the odyssey, they aren’t being very good guests lol

Siri2319

Telemachus my boy! He's such a sweetheart and I love his friendship with Athena so much ❤️ Omg I died at "They will be the most delectable christmas roast" 🤣

FuzzBird

Also another fun fact! (Sorry I LOVE Greek mythology!) Hera. The last goddess in the games is zeus' queen and is the Godess of marriage, family, women, and childbirth. Thats why Athena won her over by saying Odysseus never cheated on his wife. Because despite the fact that she is the godess of marriage her husband sleeps with everyone and anyone with multiple children out of marrige! Gotta love these Greek stories and mythos man

JJ415

That battle is so damn good... ... That I need some damn popcorn and a whole damn bottle of coke. (I have opened - the Woover - dam of jokes on you people, feel free to continue)

LikeCat

little tidbit for Hera's part. She agreed to release him after Athena said 'never once has he cheated on his wife'; she is Zeus' wife ..... yeah ... and she's also the goddess of marriage, so, little joke there :)

Kat

EXCUSE ME?!?!

Morgan Reacts

I’m with you regarding Calypso and relieved that you get it! Seems straightforward enough but… yeah. (I’ve spent way too long trying to figure out the psychology behind the discourse @_@ I won’t go into it here out of respect for the request to avoid discourse, but it’s… a Lot.)

PinkPonytail _Girl

Puppy! Such a precious little ball of floof. Can see explanations on the 20 years so won't go into that but yea - some people hate how Disney princess coded Tele feels but I think for conveying where he is in the story it works well. I know he riled you at the time, but I always consider it great when a villian does it's job in making you detest them. Similar to disney Tele, some people dislike Athena softening but honestly, just all the gods being, I don't think works for the storytelling of a muscial so glad you enjoy the growth.

tapdisneyintome

Athena isn't just zeus' daughter. She's his FAVORITE child out of them all 😅 he also technically gave birth to her

JJ415

I love Wisdom Saga soooo much. And God Games especially. A little funfact as I didn't see it mentioned before, Hephaestus is voiced by Jorge's father! I just love that his family is involved in Epic, it's so sweet. As for Ares and Aphrodite - Aphrodite is married to Hephaestus but doesn't love him (Hephaestus is described as the ugliest of Gods if memory serves me right) and she has an affair with Ares. They're Gods so it's not a secret affair, everybody knows this. Gods have usually multiple things they're Gods of but mostly: Apollo - music (which is why his concern were sirens), Hephaestus - artisans/blacksmiths, Aphrodite - love/lust, Ares - war (more physical and brutal part in opposite of Athena), Hera - family/marriage (and Zeus is constantly sleeping around so that's why Ody's faithfulness was all it took for her). If anyone sees I got something wrong feel free to correct me🙌🏽 Can't believe you have just 2 sagas left! Can't wait for those reactions💗

Raine

Yeah, this mortal is more loyal than the king of the gods and that's after not seeing his wife for 20 years... 👀

Phoenix Mackenzie

On the calypso point, yeah not a ton known other than daughter of atlas(titan holding the sky), minor goddess(beauty and strange magic iirc), not actually trapped on the island she just lives there, offered Ody immortality if he stayed with her but he only wanted home, she SA'd him for 7 years( it's not even vague, he'd weep on the beaches in the day and have to sleep with her at night "unwilling lover alongside lover all too willing" until he gets released, won't say how he gets to leave just in case you're watching blind with Morgan)

Phoenix Mackenzie

Yup, we hate calypso in the household!

Phoenix Mackenzie

YAY! You made it to the Wisdom Saga! This is my personal favorite of the whole musical, with the Ithaca Saga being a very close second. Telemachus is such a lil cutie and I'm glad you love him too!

seasonsofstories

Tbf every time I (and most PJO fans) hear anything Greek Mythology related all I can think IS the PJO „equevalant" to that - no matter if the real life mythologycal stuff is different. But yes that is a very common mistake for us. Calypso ESSPECIALLY - given her role in later books (her being a victim of the Titan/ Gods war - being a third generation Titaness herself and that means Zoë's sister --> yes, if you did not known/ figured it out (I was in this group until very receantly) by now)

LikeCat

People like to think this calypso is like the one from Percy Jackson, where she’s cursed by the gods to love anyone who comes upon her island, but there’s no real evidence for that. She’s just controlling him and SA-ing him essentially every day for 7 years.

FrisbeeDude42

I agree, i also hate Calypso, but people will fight you for that

Wukongfan32

Sounds like you've been watching MadnBooks too much.... Athena is a friend and a God in this story, get a grip.

Wolfan Terror

Before beginning the video: Thelemachus is my absolute FAVORITE in this whole Musical!! The moment I heardEye patch Legendary, I was head over heels for him! He's such a nice character!! I'm so excited to see this saga. Also, I love that we're starting with Lena😍😍😍 1:15. *gasp* Oh my gosh. Wiggles is adorable😍 3:00. Now, before we begin. You've heard a couple times already but whatever. This saga takes place 7 years AFTER the Thunder Saga. So, yeah, Ody has been away from home for 20 years! 12:10. I was starting to wonder when you would start the songs! Cause, almost 15min into the video... OH my titan😶 24:40, "I've known this character for 2 songs, and I'm already like.. 🙏🏼Adopted." Same here💞. Protect Telemachus at👏🏼 all👏🏼 costs👏🏼! 42:15, "😮, oh she's a f*cking Godess?! Oh, Jesus Christ! Of course she is. Why wouldn't it just be a normal person?! That'dbe too easy!" Yeah. The Godess Calypso. I don't know much about her. The only thing I do know, is that she's been alone on that Island her whole life! According to Google: "Calypso is a nymph known for her role in Homer's Odyssey. She is the daughter of Atlas (or Oceanus/Nereus) and resides on the island of Ogygia. Calypso keeps Odysseus captive for seven years, offering him immortality if he stays with her, but he longs for his home and wife, Penelope." 44:55. Oh my gosh, same. Fall is my favorite season of the year🍁🍂❤️. The chill breeze, the leaves change colors, more fog than other times of the year. Ah, love it! I'm so ready for Halloween!! I'm gonna try and Cosplay Vaggie from Hazbin Hotel for the season 2 premiere! I just need to find a black skirt, an eye patch (and stick a red X on it), and a long a** white wig! Wanted to cosplay Husk, but I don't want to wear a full on furry cat suit. No shame to the furries. Y'all like whatever y'all like! 49:11. I want to say this is the last time you'll hear Polites, but I honestly don't know🤷🏽‍♀️ 50:35. Idk why I didn't think of this any sooner, but that clock ticking must be like a signal to Athena that, if she doesn't get Odysseus home now, he'll freaking 💀 himself😱😱😱 58:25, 🎶Never once has he cheated on his wife. Release him🎶 "🤣🤣🤣 THAT'S ALL IT TOOK!!" Literally same reaction from me🤣🤣🤣! I laughed so bad first time I heard that part! Good thing I was home and not on the bus😅😅! 1:00:50, 🎶Let him gooo, please🫂. Let him gooo🎶 I'm getting teary eyed over here, I'm ngl🥺😢. Hearing her plead for for Zeus to let Ody go free, always makes me emotional😢😢 1:01:50. I try not to think too much of Calypso. First time seeing this musical, I had a bit of a bi moment when I saw her, but her attitude is, Idk, I wanna say, naughty, but not in a fun/good kinda way. You know what I mean? Whatever

Julie Moum

Just started, I'm not even a minute in but I need to say that I screamed "YESSS" as soon as I saw doggo😂💗🩷

Raine

10 years in the war 3 years at sea and 7 years traped on calypso's island. 20 years away. Cyclops saga(Athena leaving): 10years of travel before that then 10 years passes and she is looking for him again in the wisdom saga.

Levi Kenway

Hera is Zeus’s wife, so when Athena said “Never once has he cheated on his wife” Hera as the god of marriage and family was happy to spite Zeus by releasing a devoted husband like that lol.

SharkMessiah101

Technically 19, but whatever

Julie Moum

Telemachus is realistically 20-21 and Antinous is around the same age 19-20. This Musical makes them seem younger and older than they actually were. If Antinous was the age he was depicted in Epic, he would have gone to Troy, or knew better to try and take Penelope due to him personally knowing Odysseus. I'm not defending him, I'm saying that Jorge took a page out of the Disney method of Watering the original story down. Not by much thou. Also Telemachus is not an inoccent and golden retriever, more like a German Shepard bred for battle. Ithica is an island nation and they make most of their wealth from piracy and privateering. ALSO ATHENA IS A GOD! NOT A FRIEND.

Parker Siebe

19:10 I haven’t finished your reaction so sorry if you find out later it the video, but if you remember in The Horse and the Infant, Odysseus says “Ten years of war they’ve killed us slowly.” The ‘Seven Years Later’ at the beginning of Legendary meant that it had been seven years since Thunder Bringer, not since his journey began. Jorge actually made a few mistakes, such as in the Circe Saga when Odysseus says “Twelve long years since I have seen my wife.” But while a few mistakes were made, it had been roughly twenty years that Ithaca had no king. Edit: Just watched further into the video– glad you got everything cleared up!

Mimi Rubin

Morgan honey, 12 + 7 is 20

Wukongfan32

Ayron Alexander has such a good voice for Antinous but he plays such a good villain there. If you wanna hear how good a singer he is without the slime factor his song Heavy is so damn good.

River

10 years in the war 3 years at sea and 7 years traped on calypso's island. 20 years away.

Levi Kenway

It's 7 years latter so 13+7 years = 20 years away from Ithaca.

Levi Kenway

1. While Telemachus is such a Disney Princess (in the BEST way) but when I hear „Greek Mythology + boy with Disney Princess vibes" all I can imagine is Grover in a wedding dress from the beginning of „The Sea of Monsters" 2. Athena: You're a good kid (Me: Has „Good Kid" in my mind on loop) 3. Athena helping Telemachus because she wants to make up for what she did to Ody - Me: Ah thats so sweet... Also me: Than be there for your own kids Athena (Minus Annabeth... Kinda - you know MOA Prophecy „Wisdom's child walks alone, the Mark of Athena burns through Rome" - but like you know what I mean) 4. Me: Sees Apollo (As a Daugther of Apollo - Yes that means Will is my half brother) --> „Hi Dad. Hi Lester". Also I feel like if he spoke up (to defend Athena) he would be punished in some way... Like ending up in a dumpster kind of way 😉. 5. Athena: „At least he didn't cheat on his wife" Me: So... Who's side does SHE take regarding her half siblings? (mainly Thalia... Because Jason was „saved" from all that - A. Juno/ Hera is STILL the worst B. Jupiter (and/ or Zeus) isn't much better - like I get that you are the King of the Gods and all, but seriously? Even IF Beryl was a good mother it would be a risky thing to do, but like Thalia was/ is old enough to REMEMBER the neglect, Jason at least „grew up normal" - as normal as being at Camp Jupiter 24/7 from age 2/3 to 15/16 was normal) 6. Calypso being trapped in Ogygia - „Don't worry, in a couple of thousands of years a Son of Hephestus will set you free... He swore it on the River Styx afterall. P.S. He deserved every insult when they got back to Camp (a.k.a. Nico you are - still - the best)

LikeCat

Also, Odysseus’ desire to die was less because he was haunted by his decisions and sacrifices, but more because he didn’t see any way he would be able to get home.

EDHPlayer

Zeus would never hurt Athena. Zeus was many things, a lot of them not very good, but he was completely and fully a daughters’ father. Neither Artemis nor Athena would ever be hurt by Zeus, and Athena was his favorite so whenever she asked a favor of him, she got it. BUT she was careful so not to hurt his pride or ego. Such a witty goddess. But yeah, Zeus would never hurt Athena. And Athena would never have pointed out Zeus’ infidelity to anyone.

I was refreshing nonstop for this moment 🙏
