I CALLED IT!!!!! It's crazy we find out why Glomgold hates Scrooge so much.

I love glomgolds backstory. It's such an interesting way to handle this character. I also love that he was right to a certain extent to be upset with scrooge, but at the same time, scrooge's actions still did push glomgold to try and become successful. So, it's interesting. And then the bet that you wouldn't think scrooge would be ridiculous enough to take, but he did. 😅

Sorry I must have forgotten. I read through so many comments on here they all blur together and sometimes I forget entirely someone has told me something.

I mentioned the Season 2 opening change in a comment that you Liked on your 2x01 vid? It's why the Launchpad theme song takeover was a spoiler until Season 2.

When Glomgold was first introduced in the comics in the 1950s, he was just straight-up South African. He was less buffoonish and more of a direct foil to Scrooge- he had no moral scruples about "making his money square," he had a money bin out in the wilderness isolated from the world in contrast to Scrooge's in the middle of a major city, he used a pound sign as his symbol instead of a dollar sign, and he had his Number One Rand, the first rand he ever stole, in contrast to the first dime Scrooge earned. By the time of the 1987 show, however, US-South African relations were in a rather worse state than they were in the 1950s. Apartheid was generally considered too serious an issue for a goofy cartoon character (he was less goofy in 1987 than in 2017, but he was still a 1980s children's cartoon character), even a villain, to be associated with, so they changed him to be Scottish instead. By the time of the 2017 show, those geopolitical concerns no longer existed, so they could combine both his backstories into what we see here. The name Duke Baloney actually comes from a Donald Duck comic from before Scrooge was introduced, where Donald had to sneak into an event hosted by the fabulously wealthy Duke of Baloni. Glomgold being an evil South African billionaire with a questionable immigration background (his visa does, after all, have a fake name and nationality) who puts on an adopted hyper-nationalist persona has certainly aged. When this episode was made in 2018, Elon Musk had just started to lose his good PR after inserting himself into the Thailand cave rescue, but he almost certainly had nothing to do with Glomgold's portrayal, since the original South African Glomgold was written before Musk was even born. This episode has my favorite dream sequence of any media. It has all the plot significance of fictional dreams, but still has all the surrealism of real ones. The money clip itself isn't important. It's the principle of Glomgold having managed to steal it from him. Scrooge has something of an ego and a record of doing stupid things because of it, like pushing on up Mount Neverest against Huey's warnings, or fighting with Dewey over the magic golf course, or his handling of the Spear of Selene and its aftermath. Accepting Glomgold's bet is the same sort of thinking on his part.

Good that you noticed Magica in the intro, but...that's not actually the only change, as Gizmoduck was also not in the season 1 intro but he is now.
