Hi, This is muchi.
A friend drove us to Costco again today, and I stocked up on the frozen blueberries I eat every day. 🫐
Blueberries are fantastic, but they aren’t a typical home staple in Japan, so Costco is the best option. There was a stretch where the price skyrocketed and I was screaming inside, but things have settled a bit and I’m relieved.
And the true joy of Costco is this: 🌭 the hot dog.
I adore piling on my own ketchup, mustard, onions, and relish—whoever invented that setup is a genius. By the way, relish isn’t common in Japan at all; you pretty much only see it at Costco. I wish it would catch on here.
In Japan the hot dog is ¥180—about $1.20. That price is absurd in the best way. If I weren’t me, I’d probably be eating them nonstop!😋

In Japan, the combo also comes with a drink that has free refills! It had always been Pepsi up until now, but they switched it to Coca-Cola, which was a bit of a shock for me. I hardly ever get the chance to drink Pepsi anywhere else…!

2025-11-15 12:14:17 +0000 UTCIf they sell rotisserie chickens at Japanese Costco, then it's also an incredible deal. :D A whole cooked chicken for just $5, which should be about 767 yen. Lots of protein and you can always save the rest for another day. I would get them and pull them apart to make chicken burritos or chicken sandwiches.

2025-11-09 19:20:49 +0000 UTCin the U.S, the Costco hot dog also comes with a soft drink as well. The price is $1.50, or about ¥230. Costco's founder has also vowed never to raise the price of the combo, which given how expensive everything is these days, makes the hot dog a great deal for a cheap meal.
