Hi, This is Muchi.


One of the essential ingredients in Japanese cuisine is dashi.

All kinds of ingredients are simmered to extract the amino acids unique to the ingredients, and the broth is then used in cooking.


One of the ingredients that make excellent dashi is a type of seaweed called kombu.

In addition to being used to make dashi, it can also be eaten as is.

I had thought that kombu was rarely mentioned as an ingredient outside of Japan, but recently I have heard that it is being used more and more outside of Japan as well.


In Japan, there is a concept of taste called "umami," and dashi is what supports that taste.

I heard on the news that the word "umami" is also spreading in English-speaking countries.


I am sure that the girl we are describing must be able to make delicious dashi as well!

Doritos are also available in Japan! However, I have never seen those flavors before, so it must still be popular overseas. I would definitely like to try them in person!

That's right! I have been hearing the word umami being used quite frequently recently in cooking videos to describe a savory taste. In the US, we have a brand of chips called Doritos and they contain MSG which is the source of the umami taste. This makes the chips taste delicious and can be quite addictive.
