Oculus-Facebook... bit worried

You might have seen some posts about Oculus integration to the Facebook. I really don't have a clue why they take this path, as it will kill the headset sales big time.

The latest news are revealing they have been locking the headsets when new client has forcefully created the FB account and it's been defined as an fraud.

I really don't want you guys to reveal what game you are playing, nor your headsets being blocked. It's really worrying they are monitoring WHAT you are playing and making decisions at their end if it's ok. Well, guess what; adult is not ok!

So by playing adult games you might get to the situation where they lock your headset by violating their rules. Man, this so sick!

So, my question is for you guys playing with Oculus, should we bypass Oculus runtime it and use SteamVR only? From my end, I have no clue yet how to do it, might be you have to kill Oculus processes so the Steam can kick in and take control of the Oculus system.

Also, I've been receiving a lots of hate mails lately, it's totally fine, I have a thick skin, but where is this world heading to with anonymous opinions with every platform (not only me, in general)?! It's like we have retarded or something! We all have an asshole but suddenly some of us have to act like one :D

Oh, the main image is from the FD2 credits, pole dancer with a nice movements! I think I'm up to do the mocap day next week, my hardware is almost ready! Being mailing with the Brekel studio as an beta tester, they still have some bugs to iron, but normally it's like one day after the bug has been found. I will send you guys videos of the session!

Oculus-Facebook... bit worried

Comments

yeah, I managed to get amorian working. so I am hopeful I can get this working now when it is released

Toy

WMR requires one extra bit to work; https://store.steampowered.com/app/719950/Windows_Mixed_Reality_for_SteamVR/ After installing your device works with the SteamVR!

Jari Vuoristo

just info - After reading piles of argh I got the Samsung Odyssey as it was supposed to be the best in wmr types and yup I can get into amoreon game now but links to manuals are down so trying to figure out how to move forward and back is lol.

Toy

that's why I also purchased amorian which sadly does not work and whilst I do support as a patron anybody's efforts to `do something`, do I take a punt so I can play amorian and mistress 2. if it needs a `higher end` windows VR headset them your getting into the realms of looking at a htc at 500

Toy

the problem is .. there are so many `windows` type VR sets ( there is a hp that's 995 or various `others` like Samsung Odyssey HMD Windows Mixed Reality VR Headset with Controllers - 225 / Boxed HP Windows Mixed Reality Headset - 204 / Lenovo Explorer Windows Mixed Reality VR Headset - 189 / Acer OJO 500 - Windows Mixed Reality Headset - VR - 600 / HP Windows Mixed Reality Headset VR1000-100nn With Controls, Jet Black - 350 / HP Reverb Windows Mixed Reality Headset with Motion Controllers - PC VR - 850 ... etc ... so you take a punt on something and find it does not work.. I know nothing about VR headsets. all I know is the Gear VR with a galaxy phone works for mistress 1, that's using desktop streamer to dump your monitor desktop to the phone ( using mouse or keyboard for control ) .. so if you want max sales then gear vr is what many non gamers do have.

Toy

hiya. 200 is the start bidding price for htc, buy now second hand is around 450. hp/dell etc windows are around 200-250 second hand.. bless

Toy

if you want to go the budget way, then I suggest second hand Windows headset (ebay.co.uk, search for windows headset or htc vive). Second hand ones are about £200. If you really want to invest, then Valve Index would be the one. WMR has bit lower image quality compared to Vive and the sweetspot for the pupils is relatively small with the WMR(blurry image if not perfectly positioned). I'm doing lots of testing with WMR, as it doesn't require any beacons, it's just one USB and HDMI; fast to setup, can be used anywhere without any hassle.

You know I am considering which headset/setup to get just to play amorian and fd2? , I looked last night and the `worrying thing` regarding oculus v htc is the price. I was seeing htc at over 1,000 pounds new v half that for oculus. You also have to consider if you ditch oculus then your reducing your possible customers. it is a hard decision as you cant `nanny` people. You could simply give an `advisory` in-game or on the box but you would have to be factual and not hearsay. But then that could lead to discrimination claims by oculus. It's a tough call.

Toy

I've learned to completely ignore all offensive mails and I just delete them. Replying would be just waste of time.

there are similar discussions on my site, i.e. others finding out what you do. An example is airport security finding that `adult toy` in your hand luggage. so what. I offer to show them how it works. i.e. if they have a problem with what you do, it is their problem and not yours bud. reminds me of the days when `somebody` found an atomage mag and trying to make you feel as if you were doing something wrong reading it.

Toy

not sure what to say really. I added cam and vid streamer etc to my `adult` software on a secure server owned by me. why?. because many users complained about privacy and if `big brother` or `new intern` were snooping when we used a well known `platform`. I went to all that effort and it did not take long before the `huge issue about others knowing what you were doing` was nothing as we are adults, not breaking any laws, and those who raised the issue originally went back to using said cam services anyway. ....If they can brick your headset then that is something different and I would not take a chance as you never know what `policy change` they will have down the line. It is why I helped to co-found the world's largest BDSM IRC network when dalnet overnight deleted or blocked `adult rooms` due to a `change of policy`... as for hate mail .. do not bite back. again from experience, if you do then you will forever be defending yourself. As one company owner once said, ignore the idiots because they only do it to get free publicity. especially on forums etc. keep your chin up

Toy

Keep it up. You’re doing great. Fuсk the haters.

IcyO

When you have haters then you know you have something great. So y'all just keep doing y'all thing. Everybody here supports the hard work y'all poured into this game. 🖕To all the haters hating on this.

TooningGaming

Another reason to support government anti-trust breakup of Facebook. As for hate mail, if people spend their valuable, finite time hate mailing you its because of your success. For every one hate mail you get there are probably hundreds of satisfied end users.

Rakpartha

Its the reason I won't get a Quest.

Vulcan_x

Quest 1 then 😉

I switched from Oculus CV1 to a Valve Index last December because it was the best HMD at that time. Since this Facebook thing I will avoid anything from them even if it would be technically superior. So from my point of view cutting of Oculus support for the future of your work sounds totally reasonable for me

Hiro P

This was always the plan. Get in the hardware game, get personal data and monetize. Sunk cost fallacy keeps people hooked. People were concerned when FB bought Oculus from Palmer Luckey back in (2014? 2015?) and there was no discernible reason for them to do that other than they had the ability to scale up manufacturing, and consumer VR was just getting things rolling. I played FD1 on a DK2 back when it came out. I recall hopping over to a Vive instead of going the CV1 route, and I said to my partner "they'll get people in and then they'll decide everyone has to have a FB account." I figured initially that it sounded really silly that FB would try collecting VR data (they are an advertising company after all) but I wouldn't put it past them. In any respect, I don't trust them enough to allow them access to my headset. I won't touch an Oculus product. Not me being snobbish... just don't trust them. Also... hate mail? Really? Why?

tsaric

They're no more monitoring what applications are running then they were previously (i.e.: they're not, beyond sticking the deletable link to any launched VR executable on the launcher page). They are also not monitoring what you are doing INSIDE applications (a handful of people are reading the Horizon T&Cs and pretending they apply outside of Horizon). "Facebook bad, Valve good" always plays well on the internet though, so few bother to actually look things up.

Psuedonymous

pressed enter be4 i finished: keep up great work, dont get sidelined by idiots 👍🏻💪🏻also Im curious: What kind of hatemail u getting? Time now is so crazy that i wouldnt be surprised if you would be blamed for objectification of woman and virtual violence against them by forcing them to be dominant against men! 😂 MetooReversed ))

I would have never thought buying microsoft Wmr would mean more privacy than originally kickstarter kind of product!

Also, if Facebook want to go the way Sony did with the Betamax, let them have their fun!

Luke

Bought an Occulus Dev Kit 2 around the time Facebook acquired the company, thought it a bit suspicious when they launched their own game store alongside the consumer version and they've gone down a more constrained Apple-like approach ever since! Your games (and others) convinced me that I needed to upgrade (to include motion controls and proper 6 DOF) and I'm so glad I went with the Valve Index rather than the Occulus!

Luke

Im fine with SteamVR it suck with this oculus Facebook thing
