I honestly love how so many people have such strong opinions on whether Joel was "right or wrong". It's easy to look at it from the real life science and say that they probably wouldn't have been able to make a cure, but what makes the decision so morally grey is that, in this universe, they genuinely believed that they could have made a cure (Neil Druckmann says that, in universe, they could have made a cure, even though he is aware that the real life science is shaky on it) and they are mad that Joel took away their possibility to make a cure. But, you also have the inverse, which is what you guys believe, that it wasn't even 100% guaranteed that they could have made a cure, or that it would have even worked, and that you wouldn't have risked Ellie's life for a maybe. I love Joel as a character, but I do believe that what he did was selfish and, when you look at it from Abby's perspective where she believes that they could have had a cure and that Joel essentially killed all of her friends and her father to stop it, then I can COMPLETELY understand why she did what she did. Game spoilers for later on in the story, but, I love how in Abby's story her crew and friends often call her out on her emotional hypocrisy. She is always making selfish decisions without realizing the toll it takes on other people. Her father was killed, so she killed Joel, not realizing that she is placing Ellie in the exact same position as her. And I like how her story deals with that and Abby having to face the consequences of her decisions and become more selfless, which we see in the storyline with Lev and Yara. I also understand not liking Abby, since you have the outside POV of Joel being a character we spent a lot of time with and not being sure that a cure would have worked, but for me I can understand Abby's side just as much as I do Ellie's. The game could have been paced better and had better writing in certain places, but when you look at the journeys of both characters, then I think it was really well done, regardless of how you feel about the game's execution (I personally loved it).
