Picture completely unrelated, but I think she's pretty so you get to look at her as well. Now on to discussion.
As people have probably surmised based on character info provided, the MC of Unbroken is a competitive fighter, and as such working this into the gameplay was important to me.
Now many games have done fighting mechanics before, but there were two things about these that are usually done.
1. Quick time events. I didn't want to do this, just wasn't something I found interesting.
2. VN choices in fights. I like this version more, but it always feels a little simplistic to me.
For those who are active in my discord it's pretty common knowledge that I fight competitively. Fighting is probably my largest passion and I wanted to find a way to bring that into this game. As I'm sure many who have fought themselves would agree, fighting is much more cerebral than the average person would expect, it's not always about being the fastest or the strongest but also about studying your opponent and understanding them in regards to yourself. I want to bring that aspect when it comes to fighting in this game.
Early on you'll be given the opportunity to choose what type of fighter the MC will be, this will have a direct impact on what kind of opponents you'll face, as well as how you're going to face them. Instead of very simple dodge left, punch right there's going to be a focus on your style of fighting and how it fits the situation. (If you're a striker for example repeatedly shooting for takedowns would probably not be a very good idea.) These fights will have potential consequences, though the impact may not be as immediately apparent as you would think.
But STWAdev ,I just want to play an AVN and I don't really care about learning your fight nonsense. That's perfectly acceptable as well, every fight will also have a skip option, if this mechanic isn't something you want to explore and you just want to get back to the story then I'm more than happy to let you do that!
While not the main focus of the story I still thought it was worth it to bring some sort of fight mechanic that allows you to get a little deeper glimpse into the character and his life. You'll get a better glimpse of it when our first release rolls around. Thanks for dropping in for this weeks dev diary, next week I'll have something a little different... the very first renders from the next game.
Thanks as always for your support, and stay safe out there.
