BTS 11/28/2020

Hey all, welcome to our BTS section this week, as I always do the first one of these after the update is open to all tiers so folks can get a little taste of how cray we're living in these upper tiers.   

Now on to the matter at hand...Dru.  Oh lawdy lawd Dru was a hell of a character to get a handle on.  Of all the characters she absolutely went through the most transformations during the production process.  First, her personality was a complete 180 from where it is now, originally she was a much more dour and cynical version, very "woe is me." As I was coding though it just wasn't flowing right, compounded by the fact that every time I looked at her model I just felt like smiling was a better look for her, after about a week of struggling I completely rewrote and rendered everything I had done with her into the current Dru as she exists.  This changing of personality however brought about her next big change,  her disability.  When I wrote the script some time ago I always knew that Dru needed some sort physical marker, as you can see above with her more dour attitude she was in a wheelchair at first.  After her rewrite I just didn't feel it fit her new more bouncy attitude, and so it was changed to deaf/mute. Her main method of communication was to write her words on the MCs hand, allowing him to speak for her. Unfortunately from a production standpoint this made her interactions feel very limited to me, requiring she be in almost constant contact to the MC to engage in conversation, which I didn't like.  So after some more rewriting she was changed to being blind.  I like this a little more, as it gives her a certain sense of autonomy while also making her vulnerable. On a slightly silly note I went out of my way to make her eyes really striking, I found some irony in the blinded girl having the prettiest eyes...sorry for my failed art student moment. After all the changes though we were left with the Dru we now know and love, I really love her a ton more now and from early response she seems to have a little following who agrees!

That should give you a little bit more on Dru, though she has more to be revealed in the next update which I'm excited for and I'm hoping you really love it.
