COLLATERAL (2004), with Tom Cruise and Jamie Foxx.

George Bean

FIRST BLOOD, the first Rambo movie with Sylvester Stallone. More of a psychological drama about the issues of PTSD in Vietnam Veterans. It is also my favorite of all the Rambo movies.

George Bean

LAST ACTION HERO (1993) with Arnold Schwarzenegger. ;D

George Bean

Black Swan , No Country For Old Men , A Beautiful Mind , The English Patient and Gangs Of New York are great for the Underdog Live Action Poll .

jonathan Edge

Tenet , The Da Vinci Code , Sicario , Promising Young Woman and Sound Of Metal are great for the Popular Live Action Poll .

jonathan Edge

Princess Mononoke is a great choice - this month, I actually went with "Nausicaa" (1984) since it's the perfect 2021 Miyazaki film (and Spirited Away is already on the polls/list).

Chani Elkin

That's a great choice - if you haven't seen it yet, I highly recommend "Leverage" (2008 - fave tv show & my top tv series for recommending to them) & "Almost Paradise" (2020) which are amazing & by the same director (lots of actor overlap as well).

Chani Elkin

Another Matilda fan! <3 This makes 2 requests (aside from mine) I've seen for it - there's hope yet. Also, yes "Room" (2015) is so so good. It would be one of the best choices for a Mother's Day film (although "Places in the Heart" (1984) is also a great 'mom love/strength' movie - highly recommend it if you haven't seen it). And I'm surprised that "Wizard of Oz" hasn't been done yet. That's such a classic, if needs to be reacted to.

Chani Elkin

Another "Matilda" fan! <3 There is hope still for a reaction and I am not alone. That's one of the top movies I want them to watch.

Chani Elkin

Oh - Stardust is so good! I'd love to see their reaction to that (and Enchanted).

Chani Elkin

MONEY TALKS (1997), starring Chris Tucker and Charlie Sheen.

George Bean

My recomendations are: 1. The Maze Runner Series 2. Enchanted 3. Troy 4. Edward Scissorhands 5. Stardust Please!!! :)

Since Mother's Day is this weekend can Room (2015) be the reaction because I think that would be a good Mother's Day movie for ya'll to react to! otherwise Room (2015) Fallen Matilda 50 first Dates Wizard of Oz (1939)

Kenzie8814

Remember The Titans (2000) Drumline (2002) Money Talks (1997) John Q (2002) All About The Benjamins (2002) I'm gonna will "Remember The Titans" into existence. Such a good movie

JJ

I actually just saw a new film (aunt & uncle showed it to me) so I'm so hyped to be able to request it (I'm listing it as number 1). One of the most beautiful films I've seen! <3 (Sorry for the multiple edit comments - my shift key is sticky, so it keeps only doing Enter, not Shift+Enter for new line) Requests: 1) "Places In The Heart" (1984) - stars Sally Field, Danny Glover, and John Malkovitch. Set in a small Texan town during the mid-1930's during the heart of the Great Depression. Sally Field is a mother whose sheriff husband was accidentally killed & has to figure out not only how to take care of her family (and grieve), but how to pay the bank what is owed so she doesn't lose her house and kids. I don't want to spoil too much, but Danny Glover plays a black itinerant whose knowledge helps SF. John Malkovitch plays the banker's brother-in-law, blinded in The Great War, forced into being SF's boarder. It's a great example of storytelling with superb acting, showing what life was like (both the good & bad). How helpful and valuable acceptance and kindness can be, when you focus on what really matters & is valuable. The 'found family' is my favorite part, aside from the ending (an example of what should be and the most beautiful and bittersweet scene I've seen in a while). 2) "Matilda" (1996) - for slightly lighter fare, the classic film based on the Road Dahl book. Has Danny Devito and Mara Wilson. This is a movie that is pure fun and really captures the magic of childhood (even with the darker themes of childhood neglect and illegal capitalism). Also superbly acted, it's one that you can view over & over again - never get bored, always enjoy, & can always find new small details to focus on. With a heartwarming ending in many ways. 3) "Inherit the Wind" (1960) - Spencer Tracy, Frederick March, Gene Kelly. This is the film adaption of the famous play, which is in itself based on the real-life1920's case on teaching Darwin's Theory of Evolution in schools. Which made history. The film is again superbly acted, showing how religion & science are not necessarily mutually exclusive. The dangers of moralistic preaching (literally or through 'I'm so progressive/liberal, and you're so 'backward' in small towns"), as well the dangers of conflating attention with 'saving values' are deftly examined. How to recognize and value progress, without disregarding the value of old-fashioned beliefs or those of religion. One of my favorite films that really make you engage & think - timeless classic that can apply to life regardless of when or where you watch it. 4) "Any Day Now" (2012) - a hidden gem, one to make you root for the main characters, cry, and never forget it once you've seen it. Set in 1979 & based on a true story, it focuses on two interconnected lives. The film stars an amazing performance by Isaac Levin (the innocent heart) who is Marco, an autistic teen being raised by a single mother who (sadly) is drug-addicted. Their neighbor is the passionate Rudy (a heart-rending epic Alan Cumming) who is a gay man making a living as a drag queen entertainer. When the mom leaves the kid alone & doesn't return, Rudy turns to Paul (his new & closeted flame), a lawyer - who finds the mom's been arrested. They strike a deal where Rudy will take care of Marco while the mom's in jail. The film deals with them making a family, the homophobia (Rudy is Paul's 'cousin' b/c otherwise the adoption wouldn't be approved), the disability issues (how Marco is viewed due to the autism), and even a sympathetic few scenes on drug addiction (you may mean well, but...), job issues (jealousy & homophobia), and the impact of choices and actions. I'm actually going to include a link to the trailer for this one as it really pulls you in. "Any Day Now" (2012) Trailer Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7ghwGOuuNy0 And Finally *drumroll* we have: 5) "Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind" (1984) --- the classic Miyazaki film that actually led to the creation of Studio Ghibli. And is one of the perfect films to watch, both in general and considering everything going on. It's set in a future where nuclear damage has turned most of the world toxic. Most of the humans live in small pockets set by this forest where the lingering ecological damage has it produce toxic deadly spores. It's inhabited by giant prehistoric insect creatures who are gentle unless you try to attack them & destroy their home. The toxic forest & wasteland, which is expanding and threatening the few humans left. Everyone wears masks to survive and Nausicaa is a kind princess and scientist who tries to help her people and loves to explore the world around her. Managing to defend those she cares about in non-violent ways, and having scientific exploration that's non-invasive or destructive. The only issue is those in power who have split into two warring kingdoms trying to get access to limited resources. Nuclear resources so they can try & destroy the toxic forest. That's all I'm saying - but it is epic, it is stunningly beautiful animation, it is a thoughtful and amazing story with incredible characters. And honestly, it's the perfect film to watch in 2021.

Chani Elkin

I would strongly encourage you ladies to consider Maleficent. It is a live adaptation of Disney's original Sleeping Beauty. So maybe watch SB first and then Maleficent. There is also a sequel to Maleficent.

Angelica Chakraborty

Agreed. Also any film with Charles Dance in it is worth watching.

I really think having a Super Underdog Poll once every two or three months or so would work out and could be interesting.

Justin S.

The Long Kiss Goodnight is one of the most underrated action pictures. It would make for a great reaction.

Justin S.

please: romeo + juliet (1996), batman returns (1992), what's eating gilbert grape, legally blonde, crimson peak, remember me, twilight, mean girls

Katie Bjordahl

Batman Returns is probably the most underrated Batman film. I think at the time, many people thought it was a bit too dark for a movie that is supposed to be appealing to children. Batman 89 is still a classic as well and I actually prefer both Tim Burton films to the Nolan Trilogy, which is still good as well, just a different approach. I think I read that a third Tim Burton Batman film was originally planned with the Scarecrow as the main villain but it got scrapped. That almost for sure would have been better than Batman Forever and Batman and Robin. Another Batman film the Storm Crew should check out is the animated Batman: Mask of the Phantasm. Sleepy Hollow is another Tim Burton film I thought was done quite well.

Justin S.

Please: Matilda, The Prince of Egypt, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Pan’s Labyrinth, Spirit!

I've long hoped they'd watch Gattaca. And I'd love it if they delved into Mission Impossible (especially starting with the third entry when the series hits its stride).

BATMAN RETURNS (1992): Confession: I only really wanted you guys to watch the ’89 Batman so you could get to the sequel. While audiences seemed underwhelmed with “Returns” when it was released, it’s arguably the one that’s aged better. Watching this sequel, you get the impression that Tim Burton really was holding back from his signature whimsical style when he made the first Batman. (Maybe he felt pressure to offer up something more commercially viable.) With “Returns,” he goes full on Tim Burton, with his penchant for exaggerated misfit characters and a heavy reliance on set design. The result is more goth fantasy than a “DC Movie.” And it’s got fantastic Danny Elman music. If you wait for this to win a poll, years could go by (a la “Prince Caspian”) before you get to it. Then you wouldn’t be able to appreciate the growth/differences between the two movies.

Dog Soldiers, Conjuring 2, Annabelle. A bit scary but great movies and you've all watched some tense movies. I feel like you are ready. TV-wise you guys would love 'Merlin', fun fantasy series with great characters/relationships, interspersed with some humorous moments. Another great show is 'The Orville' a Star Trek type show with awesome characters, some exciting adventures and some good humour.
