Planes, Trains and Automobiles | FULL AKIMA Reactions

And Storm, if you and I ever find ourselves sitting next to each other on a plane in first class, I promise to try and refrain from taking my socks off ;)

JT

John Hughes best film in my opinion. Everyone calls him the 80s Teen Film Icon but I beg to differ. I'm not saying his teen films were bad, mind you, but I just thought that his true strength was in young adult/mature adult comedies (before the term dramaedy lol)

JT

One of my all time fave films, with two actors that I hold in very high regard!

JT

I don't know... I tend to think of things gratuitously thrown in without cause, rhyme or reason that serve the story as things done for sheer shock value. I think that moment was very warranted by what's happened to Neil leading up to that point. It makes his bitterness about the whole situation a lot more real. It also marks the moment in the story where Neil feels at his lowest and probably like a victim of the world - which is important to the perspective Del's story (a man with plenty to be bitter and gripe about but chooses not to) finally gives him about how, despite a very louse streak of days trying to get home, Neil actually is a very fortunate man with blessings life doesn't afford to many. :)

Wow, what a surprise. I had no idea this was coming. I loved this movie growing up. Edit: Now that I've seen the reaction, a few comments: When this came out, it was considered a bit of a novelty that (a) John Hughes was making a movie starring adults, as opposed to a movie revolving around teens/high schoolers. (b) Steve Martin was completely playing an uptight straight man. Up until then, he was mostly known for being the comedic presence. Dawn was right that the R-rating was solely due to the f-bomb scene. That scene worked because of the sheer shock value. But in retrospect, it really does stick out like a sore thumb in an otherwise gentle-PG movie.

Another good Thanksgiving movie is Home for the Holidays. Some great Steve Martin movies are Parenthood, My Blue Heaven, Father of the Bride 1and 2, Cheaper by the Dozen 1and 2, Little Shop of Horrors, and Three Amigos. There are more but these are the ones that are my favorites.

Crystal Laherrere

Took me a while but the actress that plays Ms. Page is the same one who plays Mallory in The Boys

Janitor

You seem to know your movies, can you help me find one I saw in English as a child (maybe 4 years old), but didn't speak the language; however the story seemed very much so visual storytelling so it stuck in my head. It's about 2 individuals who at the beginning select a road that takes them into a lot of trouble, and adventure (not sci-fi), where they learn to empathize with one another, and at the end of the movie, they stumble on the same 2 way avenue, and choose the same path again that got them into so much trouble to begin with?

I knew it! The state trooper in this movie is the same actor that does Chuck in Better Call Saul. I also read that Kevin Bacon was doing a cameo in this movie because he had a main role in another John Hughes movie at the same time, and his scene has a p.o.v from Bacon in the other movie, but this might just be a rumor. John Hughes has many hits, The Breakfast Club being my personal pick.

Erasmo

omg, Adams Family would be SO fun.

Armchair Wizard

I would like to recommend another road trip movie, one of the action sort. Midnight Run, stars Robert De Niro. It’s honestly one of my favorite movies.

Matthew Richson

Perfect Thanksgiving surprise! Seriously, thank you for this.

Matthew Richson

I'm so glad you guys made this one a random pick for Thanksgiving! 👏 IMO this is the best Thanksgiving movie ever made - there are so few that I know of tbh. I watch it every year for the Holiday, so this'll be a fun bonus for me to watch it this year with you guys' reactions to it! 🙂

A really funny Steve Martin movie that I think would be fun for the channel would be Bringing Down the House with Queen Latifah! Omg so funny!

Daniel R

I love this movie so much. It was me and younger brothers' favorite movie to watch around this time of year. Thanks for giving me an excuse to watch it.

Daniel R

christmas movie suggestions: twilight, the santa clause, home alone, how the grinch stole christmas (2000 - jim carrey version), batman returns but probably won't happen because it's the second of the 1989-1997 batman movies but it's a very different kind of christmas movie.

Katie Bjordahl

Hahahaha.... AWESOME thunbnail!

YodatheHobbit

A classic. Still top 3 of my fav comedies. How come nobody mentions Dutch?? Another great Thanksgiving road trip classic by the late John Hughes that gets no love because there are no A list actors in it. You guys need to watch that one.

James

Holy Snaples!!!!!! I was just streaming this movie to my nieces in Argentina yesterday!!!! Would've never thought you guys would watch it! Here's to a wild card for Christmas, and watching The Addams Family movies *fingers crossed*
