KineFX 101 – Pt.10: The Non-Animator Character Animation Pipeline

All your pleas that this really isn’t part of your job description as a technical artist were unheard. All your recommendations for freelancers that would be way more qualified were ignored.
So, can we cheese our way out of this situation? Can we get a somewhat decent character animation without … you know … animating any characters? Well, KineFX has made our odds a bit better. Let’s take a look at the workflow!

Hey! Chris chiming in here: This episode uses FBX Files, which sometimes can cause issues with KineFX. We've adressed these issues and all our known solutions in Episode 31 of this course. If something in your setup isn't behaving as shown in the video and the error persists if you load the scenefile, give Ep31 a watch!

2022-03-28 22:30:41 +0000 UTCYeah, I thought about including that, but I couldn't find a suitable example for it in the setup I had planned. For anyone who's interested: You can use a SkeletonBlend SOP for this. Either by using just the group field and the bias set to 1 or by driving the bias with an attribute (for example created with an AttribPaint SOP) for a smoother transition.

2022-03-25 11:18:30 +0000 UTCBtw, I don't know if you noticed, but for a while now your video thumbnails are blank, it's just a light-grey rectangle. I pointed this out to Saul Espinosa, when it happened on his Patreon and he said this solved it: " It seems there was a bug with vimeo/patreon where in the past videos would work with the "hidden" privacy option for vimeo videos. But after this change it would no longer work. So the other user needs to change his videos to be privacy with link only and embed to patreon.com only."
